Who's a better president: Trump or Lincoln

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/472460-poll-majority-of-republicans-say-trump-better-president-than-lincoln

A majority of Republicans say President Trump is a better leader than former President Lincoln, according to this week’s Economist/YouGov weekly tracking poll.

Fifty-three percent of Republicans said Trump was a better president than Lincoln, while 47 percent chose the Civil War-era leader.

Lincoln still overwhelmingly beats Trump among all Americans, 75 percent to 25 percent, with the vast majority of Democrats and independents choosing the former president.

While impeachment and other controversies surrounding Trump continue to dominate headlines, polls have shown the president maintaining a strong approval rating among Republicans.

9. That's the trolling.

When I first saw the story, I laughed out loud. The trumpsters were trolling the pollsters, and by extension, the media and the left.

4. Define better.

Define "greatest" President.

It all comes down to the definition.

If better means NOT getting 600,000+ Americans killed... then it's TRUMP.

If better means neutralizing a breakaway region and retaining the Union at any cost, it's Lincoln

7. The current Republican Party is descended from the Confederacy

It's not correct to call the current Republican Party the Party of Lincoln. The past Republican Party was the Party of Lincoln. Republican ancestors were primarily Democrats and Confederates during the Civil War. It's no wonder current Republicans don't think much of Lincoln. He defeated their side in the Civil War.

Later, in Nixon's time (and thanks to his Southern Strategy), racist Democrats of the South (Dixiecrats) switched parties to become Republicans. At the same time the non-racist people in the Republican Party (the Lincoln version) switched party's to become Democrats.

8. You sorta right and a lot wrong

Go do a deep dive on voting histories and you will find that the dixiecrat migration is a myth the total of federal politicans that this accurately applied to was somewhere in the single digits, this myth is the basis for the claim you making. However, at the same time you aren't entirely wrong either. The political structure did not migrate, but over a period of time an abandonment did occur. The democrats did loose the support of traditional voting blocks in the south not so much because of racism although it would be folly to claim that wasn't an issue for some considering the shear number of people, but the real difference that cost them was that when democrats bought into civil rights for minorities as a priority they do so with a top down totalitarian strategy. That far more than any racism was what turned away southern voters who more so than any other segment of the population both then and now embarrass the cultural priority of self determination that had come from scots-irish cultural history and taken root as founding pillar of southern cultural identity. So both groups the racists and for lack of a better identifier the individualists had no where else to go. What they found in the Republican party was a group that while not overtly an ally it was also not their enemy as the Republican party while still a stalwart central government advocate they also gave credence to at least some of the limitations of government which those who were otherwise neutral saw as at least a form of protection for them from a government looking to work against them.

17. There's a great deal of truth to the idea that people don't like to be told what to do.

The ancestors of the slave-holding South bought into a lifestyle and economy that was dependent on slavery. Much of the current Republican resentment of POCs, in particular blacks, and even the government stems from that original sin. It's very difficult to separate racists who wanted to keep slavery and segregation from individualists who were supposedly merely resentful of being told they had to.

Yes, people don't like to be told what to do, even when they are doing wrong.

19. I would love to see

the logic behind this claim
"The ancestors of the slave-holding South bought into a lifestyle and economy that was dependent on slavery. "

It's simply not true, in fact its a self defeating statement. In addition, there is no resentment of people of color from the Republicans at least not wide spread beyond the fraction of a percent that are stupid enough to actually be racist.

As for separating the two, its not difficult at all. It only takes requires one prerequisite, don't start with the assumption that those who oppose leftist ideals are racist. If you can view it from an unbiased perspective, its easy to see.

12. My Oh My , how wrong can one be?

Trump doesn’t spread hate at all. Democrats own the patten on hate since Trump won the fair election.

Improving people’s lives regardless of color Trump promotes progress for all , certainty not the hate you feel.

The left thinks it’s hate because they are not seen as saviors as Trump is viewed.

15. Difficult question to answer

It's not as cut and dry ans the question implies. Yes, Lincoln waged a war that resulted in the freeing of the slaves. In the process, however, he fundamentally destroyed the Republic envisioned by the Founding Fathers. We were never intended to have a strong centrally administered Federal Government. Really, our Constitution is not set up for that arrangement.

Trump has been undeniably good for the economy. I'm not sure how high that puts him in the rankings.

History obviously cannot be taken back. I would however, like to see a few USSC Decisions that shift some the balance of power back to the States.
