Former Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch says State Department in trouble

These were her first public remarks since testifying before Congress.

Former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch said the State Department is "in trouble," with senior leaders who lack "moral clarity" and "policy vision," in her first public remarks since testifying before Congress.

Accepting an award for excellence in diplomacy at Georgetown University, Yovanovitch also took an apparent shot at President Donald Trump's foreign policy: "An amoral, keep 'em guessing foreign policy that substitutes threats, fear and confusion for trust, cannot work over the long haul."

During her remarks and a question-and-answer session, Yovanovitch never said Trump's name and only mentioned Secretary of State Mike Pompeo directly when discussing his recent trip to Kyiv, Ukraine. But her remarks could be taken as a criticism of Trump's foreign policy, a defense of the State Department and a call to "reinvest" in diplomacy.

Yovanovitch, a fellow at Georgetown, retired this month as a career Foreign Service officer after serving as U.S. ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Ukraine. Last May, Trump removed her from her post in Kyiv after a smear campaign against her by him, his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and Giuliani's American and Ukrainian associates, who accused her of badmouthing Trump, being corrupt and blocking investigations into Democrats.

1. Shocking, simply shocking

That a fired Obama appointee would criticize the Trump administration. Is this a first?

2. Lots of sour grapes in her!!!

She forgets that the president gets to set whatever foreign policy they want. She is not to grade it, praise it, or critique it- she is to follow it!
