23. thanks. It was a while ago now.

a mini-schnauzer one day will have another.

This Russian Blue though is one amazing friend. Have had other cats, this one is almost like a Meer Cat.
And smart.
Was able to open a cage on day one. Can open doors, and is the most warm being (loves to jump on my lap, stand up and just about give me a real hug.) (without prompting or training.)

Have a calico cat that is older (actually the calico was adopted the Saturday prior to 9/11/01 as a small kitten, so small we couldn't bring him home for a week), and when my Russian Blue entered, the calico took a back seat.
(little did I know til later that Russian Blues are great with people, children, almost all cats EXCEPT calico cats whom they have disagreements with shall we say. And they do.

And what long lanky arms he has too. So uncat like.

and it was an adoption, hadn't specifically looked for one, so got very lucky.

I have supported and wanted Barack Obama in 2004 (though I knew that wouldn't be so soon), and was a major supporter in 2008 and 2012 (and now support Hillary to continue his agenda because she earned my support.
But as so many know I was for President Obama in 2008 from day one.(back prior to the 2004 convention, when someone at CGCS (a different board) first introduced me to him in 2003 I think it was.

15. no, not me. I am me and don't hide the fact, and never had another name on DU

and since 2003 on the official John Kerry board, which later segued into CGCS had a variation of this name
BobGraham4VP = then when that vile Edwards was picked, changed it to
BobGraham4anything then just
Graham4anything
now
Graham4anything4HC45 (because I could not log on there to pick up the name as it was, and once started as this wouldn't want to have to re-post and this is more current anyhow (and signifies I want Hillary to continue the agenda of Barack Obama forever. (and a day).

and never attempted to sign back up under a phony name, because this name means something

was on the Gore board years ago reeelctalgore prior to CGCS after the 2000 election til signed up on the JOhn Kerry official board in 2003, then that segued into commongroundcommonsense (much the same concept as this here board) also known as CGCS which disappeared overnight, then came here, which I had read but never posted on a short time later.
after Gore did not run

30. JFK/LBJ/John V. Lindsay/McGovern/Teddy/Jerry Brown/Jesse Jackson/Obama/...

I was one that thought LBJ should never have left the race as he would have defeated Nixon
I loved Bobby, but I do not think Bobby would have gotten the nom had he lived, I think HHH still might have gotten it, McCarthy fans were p.o.'d that Bobby stole his thunder...
I truly believe LBJ was hoodwinked by JFK's McNamara, and JFK would have done the same thing.
In actuality, I think Teddy was the best of the 3. Had the two not died, Teddy's one major problem would most lkely not happen, but we shall never know.

I supported Jerry Brown 3 times and Jesse Jackson 2 or 3 times
I was not a supporter in the primaries of Bill Clinton, but Hillary won me over with her loyalty to President Obama, something that surprised me, didn't think that would happen.
Supported Gore to run again in 2004 because he should have been seated in 2000 (though to tell you the truth,
when Gore first ran in the 80s, he was far too rightwing for me.

Liked Mike Dukakis once he was nominated but Bush made a fool out of him (as Bush's do). but I was supporting Jesse Jackson for the nomination.

I liked McGovern, but knew he stood no chance in 1972 (especially after Eagleton, who was a good man).

But I think out of anyone, John V. Lindsay is the one I admired the most. Especially how on his own, he went up to Harlem and there was no riot that night in 1968 after Dr. King died. Some of my family were heavily working for him in his earlier days back when the two major parties in NYC were really the
Liberal and conservative party, and being repub or dem was almost incidental then.
He was truly a populist liberal.
And a great, great union man.

and very heavily admired Allard Lowenstein. who as you probably known was assassinated by a man with a gun so many decades ago now. (40plus years).

Allard was an inspiration for my favorite singer of all time Harry Chapin. (who's song "Remember when the music" was based on.

Wish Allard was still here.

39. John V. Lindsay was first a repub, then indep. Ran for President in 1972 in the democratic party...

actually was only in a few primaries, and got more votes than eventual nominee McGovern.
but he was a liberal, which in NYC in the 60s, was the important designation, not dem/repub.
Biggest union man I knew in elected office.

(and the namesake of the fictional Mayor Lindseed on the all time Great, campy Adam West Batman.
who is my favorite Batman).

and yes, in national politics, it indeed is when one needs 270 to become president, any other party will
take away votes from someone.
And those alternative candidates are propped up by someone, usually on the side they end up helping,
and the only recent exception
Ross Perot, had a personal grudge against 41, was not a fan of CLinton, but wanted to deny 41 the presidency.
Perot when he dropped out showed he actually was playing games and did not himself wish to spend the time being a president.
He proved himself to be what I thought when in 2000 he endorsed W.
It was all a personal grudge going back to finding some MIA's in Vietnam I think or something like that)

Change comes from within.

I was a big fan over the years of some of the major name protesters.
Columbia SDS leader Mark Rudd comes to mind.
And he supported Barack Obama and on his old website said something like you need to build from within.
The violent tearing it down don't work, it has to be from within, building with what is there, and making it better.
(not sure if he has an updated website, or just an older cached one.)

and I have found in the past, I have changed an opinion or found someone who I might not always have agreed with based on something they may write next week or month.
Which is why I don't ignore anyone.

That happened during Katrina, during the Terry Schiavo travesty and other things.
And evolved on issues and realized on others that I was misled by "breadcrumbs".

Always find politics fascinating. And the way things change and don't change.

thanks.

59. 270 cannot be divided into 3. One of the others always is for a or b (even if a or be change.)

I really find reading Mark Rudd interesting, though its not all that current to remind myself of his
evolution and reality.

And I go back to LBJ and discount Vietnam completely and focus on all the good he did everywhere else
that the republican party has tried to dismantle piece by piece, and President Obama is trying to fortify again.

and to do more needs the court, and that won'thappen if the repubs win and move the court way way right with another Alito (who I consider the worst, though at the time I didn't as he was from NJ and he never made public his true views). Last thing we need is another of him.
Only way to change the court is to remain democratic.

as for NSA and the phones, it should go back to phone companies housing info, and also in remembering 99 percent of people used to have their name/address phone number in public phone books, that major libraries kept in stock nationwide to find anyone.
Only now there is more technology, but I can't believe anyone really cares what I say (except for those that so hard for whatever reason try to silence me online.)

and I disagree on techinique that occupy did, and my thoughts about Mark Rudd (who had been there, and learned) apply with them too-
their being anonymous wasted a lot of years IMHO when they could have ran for office in 1000s of town nationwide and some would win, some would lose, but it would be restocking the political pool with hopefully more liberals. By remaining anonymous anyone was able to claim anything, and no leaders by name emerged.
Wasted years IMHO. Could have had 10 or 20 assemblymen, a couple of congress, maybe someone running for Gov. in 2014....but we don't.
And the masks scared people who were old enough to remember masks and what they connotated.
Sorry if you disagree on this.

61. This one time, I went to the doctor.

I told the doctor I had a pain in my foot. He asked me if I've been exercising a lot lately. I told him I only go to the gym 5 or 6 days a week, as I'm lazy. He asked me what I do there. I told him I run four miles and lift weights every other day and on days I don't do that, I am on the elliptical for an hour. He then told me that's probably why my feet hurt.

So the next day I went to the gym and I noticed that the opposite foot hurt and the original foot felt fine. I went back to the doctor and told him my other foot hurt. He again asked me if I am on my feet a lot. I told him I only go to the gym five or six days a week. He asked me what I do there, and once again, I told him.

The next day I was walking down the sidewalk and I happened across a business that was selling stuffed animals. I went into the store and bought five stuffed giraffes.

And that's the story on how I bought my five stuffed giraffes.

78. Oh. My bad.

So when I was in sixth grade, I used to sit next to a girl named Cassie during lunchtime. We were good friends. She told me a lot about her family. One time, she invited me out to her family farm. The farm sat on around 500 acres. About 50 of those acres included a woods. So we walked through the woods and had a great time. One time, when I was sitting in a big tree with her, we held hands. That was the first time I held hands with a girl. After about a month of sitting in the tree and hand-holding, she kissed me on the cheek. That was the first time a girl kissed me.

I was surfing Amazon.com last week. I thought to myself "I have never seen a blue giraffe before". So I ordered a blue giraffe. That's the origin of the sixth giraffe.

67. Um, wrong.

Here's what I'm waiting for on this site ...

The folks on the right who are absolutely sure Obama is a socialist to debate those on the left who are absolutely sure he's a corporatist.

Ironically (particularly given your post), I've yet to see that debate here.

I have seen folks on the right claim that Obama didn't end the Iraq war. The DOW doubling isn't real. And Obama started wares in Syria, Egypt, and Libya.

In other words, I've encountered quite a few right wing folks posting here, who sound just like some of DU's most prolific anti-Obama posters.

43. I look at the long term picture, and politics as a game of 9 step chess

something appearing this very moment, is not what the end game later is.

IMHO, others see it different.

I do think those who are further left than me (or progressive as opposed to liberal) would be very disappointed two months after either a Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren took office, assuming that was what they wanted.

Because they cannot change the system and someone like Elizabeth Warren IMHO is in the very powerful job she is in right now, and being President would actually lessen her power on the very topic she is most concerned about.
I know others don't see it, but powerful Senators, though maybe not the last 8-12 years, are throughout history the ones that make things happen

(Just see LBJ for that).

Had Teddy not died, perhaps more senators could have been nudged further left. But he died shortly after inauguration, and we shall never know. It would have been very interesting to have 30 years of both
Warren and Teddy side by side by side. But I expect Sen. Warren to become the long term best senator of the next 20 years and work WITH not against Hillary and bring her much further left than one thinks.

That is my hope.
President Obama opened the way, and in so many different ways.

(but no one has to agree with me, just have a little patience, that takes a while as it really was since 1960 with Nixon, and especially 1980 when Reagan won, that things went worse to worse so far right, that just getting to the center and starting to move left takes a lot of doing.

IMHO as a democratic party person but specifically a major fan of President Obama, whom I want to see as member of SCOTUS in 2018 overseeing all the great things he envisions coming into fruition.
(and remember, he inherited the drones, NSA, war on terror, etc...and one cannot just snap their fingers and have it disappear. Think of how many new wars already would have been fought had McCain become President.

49. I disagree. Elizabeth Warren wouldnot do any different. Neither would bernie Sanders.

there would be no pleasing you.
Because you just cannot change things quickly in the way the USA works, a nation that was born in compromise.

(see the serenity poem once again-
and I would rather push the social issues through while slowly changing the other things than get nothing overreaching while there are Joe Leiberman's out there stopping ones every move.

55. There is not lack of respect for the President. There is grave concern over some of his policies.

I supported him too since I first heard him speak in 2004. But I strongly disagree with, eg, his 'putting SS on the table' and with many of his Republican appointees to his Cabinet. I also oppose his drone policies and his unwillingness to go after the War Criminals who cost this country and others, so much.

You can rail all you want about it all being about a particular politician, it isn't, it is about policies.

Why, just as an example, has he left Clapper, Bush loyalist, former CEO of Security Contractor, Booz Allen, in place in a position where the conflict of interest is so glaring, there is no chance that this president doesn't see it.

57. JFK JFK JFK

I am not sure one can undo all that and remain alive.

as for trials, the Bush's would do what happened with Oliver North and the other Iran/Contra.

what good did it all do when it was overturned (fixed) and then pardoned (41 basically pardoning everyone.)

I think for real change, one needs one party over many years, (say another 16 years after Obama), to clean everything up, especially when friendly flags happen and other events manufactured at just the wrong time.

What good does anything do if Jeb gets in?
No matter what then, it would be another 20 years.

and SS was NOT tampered with, as I predicted it wouldn't be though Manny and others harped on it for months and months.

(though someone just starting out now, should not in 50 years expect the same numbers then, SS will not, did not and won't change for anyone over,at, or near retirement age.
It was just hyperbole and was just bait.

So many bad things were predicted, that just did not happen, yet President Obama was hit time and again.
For things that never would have happened.

Things were better when not everything was in the news 24/7/365...we really were not meant to see all this
IMHO.

65. Please don't bring in grudges that have nothing to do with Sabrina.

She's not the author of the quote that was taken so personally by too many. I like President Obama, but I'm not a lock-step thinker by a long shot. It would be nice to leave the in-fighting at DU.

she must realize that her statement above it proven false by those very words. She said that it was a policy concern, and no dispresect?. Hardly. Those are words that she defended.

84. But you're presenting what *another* person said -- once -- as Sabrina's opinion.

She doesn't own it; she never wrote anything like that.

The person who did write it -- once -- acknowledged that he was wrong and he apologized for it.

Your clutching on to the phrase and forever bringing it up doesn't help your argument. When I see the phrase brought up, it's always from the same group who took it personally. Disrespectful as the phrase was, why continue to display it over and over?

79. It is and was about policy. This isn't DU, arguments related to DU belong on DU btw, not here. I

support Democratic policies and will ALWAYS oppose policies that come from Conservative Think Tanks which generally support the privatization of everything. I opposed the mandate, a Conservative policy going back years, see Romneycare, supported Obama who opposed it in the campaign, did not support Hillary who supported that corporate policy and still oppose it.

I have not changed my opinions on policies since Bush was occupying the WH. But a whole lot of people suddenly now support everything they opposed back then IF those policies are being pushed by this administration.

50. Civil rights, inequality to women,Gays, bullying by a bully,,hatred because someone is different

I don't hate someone just because they have money.
Let's say you get rid of say Jaimie,as another thread mentions him in re : Detriot, lets say those that hate him hang him in public square, and then what? Another person would replace him, his money would not go to the poor, what is the point?
It would change nothing.

and anarchy is never the answer.

Dr. King did not stop because he lost many battles and it took 100 years from the Civil war, then it took so many more years since to go from Shirley Chisolm running a symbolic campaign, to Jesse Jackson, coming close, to 2008 and President Obama. And having all the crap he has endured tossed at him.

Sorry, I did not stop fighting the day he won, the fight goes on.
(cue in Ted Kennedy's most famous words...

35. the day it happened

I was in the mod part of the board (which discussed posts to delete), and I went personal on someone
and overstepped what I was suppose to do and what I posted was personal, I take full responsibility for it, I know it was wrong, knew it when I hit enter, couldn't go back and delete it because someone quickly time copied it and reported it, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Mattered little that others did worse to me personal wise, I did it, my mistake, I apologize.
two wrongs do not make it okay.
Should have had more self control.

Can't say it often enough.

But, I only had one hidden post when that happened, so it was not jury, not overabundance of removed posts.

Had the new rules then been in place, probably would have had a 90 day "time out" that is now the rules over there (and here).

It was in that mod part that one had to volunteer to be in through different groups (so it was not on the public part of the board so most did not even know why).

I know it said troll when I was canned, but after what, 5000 posts? I was not a troll in 9 out of 10 meanings
and I did not intentally post to cause arguments, but it appeared my heavily Pro-Obama viewpoint was taken as professional which is not true.
I sincerely believe what I do about MY President who I think is the best since LBJ, no matter what others think.

(and my writing style irritates some, but someone called it "stream of conscious" that some people have, with so many thoughts in my head all coming out at once it goes subject to subject that makes sense to me, and others who are similar in that sense.)

Love the Austin music scene and SxSW, though its been awhile since I was there.
Love seeing the "Dallas" ranch in Plano big fan of the TV show that is now back...when I was there I almost on purpose fell into that swimming pool, but didn't have the guts and thought I might be arrested "accidentally" falling in.

At some point had an avatar of both Wilford Brimley and later Sam Elliott.
(Wilford for his line from that Grisham movie about a subpoena)

48. I like the long hair LBJ. I believe that was a statement LBJ made showing his true self.

HIs liberal almost socialist on social issue self
not the war he was caught up in, which at the time, the USA could not lose and tore the nation apart.
(as the space race proved).
Maybe the true secret of Watergate was there was proof of Nixon's sabatoge of the peace talks in that office.
But LBJ didn't run, Nixon won, extended the war to 1972 or 73, and I feel Nixon would have lost in a real down and dirty bloody race vs. LBJ.

after all, LBJ beat him in 1960 and IMHO would have in 1968.
HHH ran with all the baggage and no solo accomplishment to offset it so HHH running did not bring in enough.

Perhaps had LBJ offered Bobby the VP, and jettisoned HHH, that might have been the answer (far fetched I know, we shall of course never know,) but then Bobby would have had an open door to 1972 and 1976.

Maybe Michelle
Chelsea?
Deval Patrick?
Julian Castro?

personally would love to see the amendment overturned about 2 terms, and way in the future,
like Jerry Brown in California, President Obama comes back for 2 more terms when he is say 65 or 70.

why would I want to undo what took so many years to happen?
why would anyone? (especially if that means bringing back a Bush (Jeb.)

and never would anyone waste their vote after 2000 and what happened in NH with W winning those pesky 4 votes that gave W the election.

Most of all Allard Lowenstein and John V. Lindsay.
It is because of Allard and his asssassination that I developed my distaste for guns.
