Clinton's Health Care Attack Makes No Sense

The Clinton camp is lambasting Bernie Sanders' health care plan, but its critique is blatantly dishonest.

With the polls tightening in Iowa and voting both there and in New Hampshire just a few weeks away, the Kumbaya feeling in the Democratic primary is gone. In particular, the Hillary Clinton camp has evidently decided it's time to go on offense against independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, lest 2016 start feeling like 2008 all over again.

Predictably, one line of attack is on Sanders' record on gun control, which certainly has its blemishes. Another, though, makes far less sense, particularly in a Democratic primary: Clinton is lambasting Sanders' proposal for a universal, single-payer health care system. And she's doing it in a pretty dishonest way.

Oh my God, she's lying? Who would have thought?

1. This is a moronic opinion piece

The author claims Clinton is describing Bernie's "old" plan, as if there is another plan by Bernie out there. That's bullshit. She is describing the exact plan he is touting, because it's the only one he has released.

And she is exactly correct. It's a plan that calls for 50 single payer plans in 50 states. It's ridiculous beyond belief and he refuses to discuss the costs. It's so ridiculous not one dem member has signed on to it in almost 3 years of existence.

The only one lying here is Bernie.

3. Yes, really

Both are for universal healthcare. But his is the only moronic plan that calls for 50 single payer plans in 50 states.

He's clueless.

4. Hillary is not for universal healthcare

She actually got the healthcare plan she wanted, even though she LOST the 2008 primary.

Barry was running on the public option to compete with corporate insurance. Hillary was running on the Koch/Heritage/Romney model with the mandatory payments to corporate insurance.

Barry got a lot of votes by campaigning on the public option, including this Devil. And (after saying SEVERAL times that "the bill I sign WILL contain a public option) when he betrayed us all and signed KochHeritageRomneyHillaryBaucusCare into law, he lost a lot of votes in 2012.

Healthcare for profit is not now and never will be a solution. Lose the corporate insurance, expand Medicare into a national single payer system. Problem solved.

7. Did you forget Bernie told you in 2009 that public option wasn't happening?

Or were you not paying attention back then?

Now he's running for president (of bullshit, apparently) so he's telling you he's going to get single payer. And you believe him????

Also, learn the difference between universal healthcare and single payer. They are NOT the same thing. Hillary was the pioneer of universal healthcare. And while Bernie was sitting on his duff doing nothing she was laying the groundwork for it. That's why 20 million more people now have health insurance.

And by the way, she did more for healthcare as First Lady - the SCHIP program - then Bernie has done in 25 fucking years. That added 8 million kids to Medicaid roles. Largest expansion of Medicaid in history at the time.

Your champion is nothing more than a bag of empty promises.

6. No, no, and fuck no.

You are wrong and keep pushing this lie.

He clearly states that the plan is universal coverage through an expansion of medicare NOT medicaid.

States will not have control over it and will have no option to 'opt out' as it will be the federal medicare program. The states will only have the option to manage it if they so choose.

It is not 50 single payer plans in 50 fucking states. Get your god damned facts straight and stop pushing this lie.

Jesus on a crutch!

8. Yes it is - read the damn bill

That would be much more productive than you spending your time in denial on a web forum.

Maybe you just don't want to know the truth.

10. I have read it.

I have listened to his interview in response to the lies just yesterday.

Sadly, you are just like your candidate, apparently incapable of admitting that you are wrong.

Ah well, soon you will crawl under a rock to nurse your wounds when Sanders takes the nomination.

12. Then stop denying it replaces Medicare with....

50 single payer plans in 50 states. Because that's reality. And if it wasn't this opinion author wouldn't have to excuse the idiocy of it by pretending it's an "old" plan. It's the only plan he has. There is no "new" plan to take its place.

Bernie won't tell you that. Nor will he discuss the costs. And yesterday he finally admitted it has no chance of passing. But it's somehow gonna happen because the people will demand it. Yeah, right. What people are these? Half the people don't even want the ACA.

It's like you're pissed that she won't blow smoke up your ass, and prefer a guy who will.

14. You are looking at the old plan.

And he has been discussing the details of the plan as it is unfolding.

Of course he will discuss the costs.

Right now, nothing any Democrat would propose would pass the current GOP controlled Congress. It doesn't mean you don't try.

And yes, when the culture shifts, the government does. Maybe you weren't paying attention the last 40 years around LGBT civil rights and marriage. I sure did, intimately.

Clinton blows smoke up people's asses all the fucking time. She is doing so again. That you can't, well, no, really won't see that defines who you are.

15. There is no "new" plan - this is what he is campaigning on

How convenient that we should pretend his current plan is "old" now that everyone knows it is totally ridiculous. How much fantasy are we required to engage in around Bernie Sanders? Please do tell.

Never in my life have I seen so many people force themselves to engage in so much dissembling and fantasy to justify their support for a candidate. Not even on the republican side of the aisle.

Stop with this nonsense about an "old" plan. That's just baloney. If he (or you) can't defend the plan he is running on then maybe he should come up with a plan that is not so ridiculous. Period.

Pretending it's not the plan he is running on is a complete lie.

5. It IS Senseless

It's time for Democrats to stop attacking each other like they are Republicans. It happens on DU, DI, now between candidates. Lies and smears are Republican territory and they can have them.

I have told Republicans many times that if they had a good platform and viable solutions to problems, they would not have to lie. Now I have to say it about HRC and her supporters (yes, even and especially DI & DU posters).

9. God forbid Bernie supporters be told the truth

That is definitely something they don't want to hear. Even this opinion piece wants you to discount his very own bill calling it "old" when it's the only one he has introduced, and stands as his current plan. If he doesn't want the only plan he has introduced to be evaluated maybe he should withdraw it.

A question:

which message site has a section that is by invitation only and hidden to all others?

Once that is answered, let us know if you have been invited.

Are you talking about Jackassradicals? I wouldn't know. I am not a moderator of any site. I just like to post on multiple forums about politics, but I couldn't tell you who runs them (other than this site or DU) or what the "rules" are about joining / invitations, etc. Don't really care.

23. No, It's Pro-HRC Message Board

Somebody told me about it months ago. I visited, but it was not something that I wanted to be part of. I am for all the Democratic candidates and I don't want to publicly fight people who should be my allies while the Republicans and conservatives pass the popcorn (hint hint hint).

... on DU, that was also a member at the pro-Hillary site? As if Skinner has a right to tell people what other forums they can be a member of? Yeah, that was hysterical. Those hysterics will go down in DU/BU history. That's for sure.

You have one of the nastiest exchanges right here amongst fellow Dems.

It's one of the very reasons that people who aren't Dems in the first place, READ places like the DU. It's sorta fun to watch them eat their own.
