Before the big battles begin I think we need a moment of unity

Discussionist is open to people from across the political spectrum and there will no doubt be some moments of heated debate. There are sure to be some nasty things said in that debate, but before we are at each other's throats I hope we can take at least a minute to think about the fact that each person on this site is a human being and we all have similar interests.

It does not matter if you are a Democrat, a Republican, a leftist, a Libertarian, or anything in between, we all have common interests as human beings. For all that we may fight we all carry the basic human desire to live a comfortable life free from violence and poverty. We all want to live in a world in which we have at least a basic level of freedom, we want to be able to eat when we are hungry, go to the doctor when we are sick, we want to have access to knowledge, we want an income that will allow us to sustain a good quality of life. Humans fight all the time, but when you really look at the big picture we all have a lot more in common than we often realize.

Considering that every human being on this planet has the same basic needs I really wish we had more unity among us, but the reality is that there are injustices in this world and people need to challenge those injustices even if doing so creates division. Even at those moments in which we are divided however I hope we can all recognize that despite our divisions on any given issue, we all are human beings and we all have similar interests in the big scheme of things.

1. First:

Internet discussion does NOT constitute debate. At best it is a mild bar argument; at worst, it is more akin to illiterate scribbling on a truck stop bathroom wall.

Second:

You can never control internet forum diahrrea. Forums are the province of assholes, boasters, cowards, and adults with the intellectual acuity of 12 year olds.

Imagine a big bucket of shit. The nice pieces of corn are what make it worthwhile. Similar with the internets.

2. Bravo

It is with an open mind that one's belief system can be changed. For how long have so many of the more enlightened spoken to closed minds? It will be no different here. Refusing to step aside from a belief and accept that another has a better perspective on an issue than oneself is not the prevalent tendency.

Given a chance to SHOUT is exuberating!

Still, no one will hear.

Mobile doesn't seem to have one. Anyway, Big K & R!
