Irony of Ironies: NY Daily News recommends those fleeing Trump to move to real Authoritarian State

The most well-rounded country

Trust expats who have already fled their countries: Singapore might be your best bet. The island nation boasts the top quality of life for expats, according to a 2015 survey of expats by InterNations, a 2 million-person strong network of migrants.

The Asian county earned the title for its slew of high-paying jobs, welcoming atmosphere, stellar health care facilities and top-notch public transit. English, one of Singapore's four official languages, is used frequently, especially in urban areas, so communication barriers are limited for Americans.

What Lee didn’t embrace, of course, was the Western conception of pluralistic democracy and free expression. The country does hold regular elections, but Lee’s People’s Action Party has held power continually since 1959, and, during his long prime ministership, opponents of the regime were routinely rounded up and imprisoned. Foreign publications that tried to report on Singaporean domestic issues, such as the International Herald Tribune and the Far Eastern Economic Review, found themselves sued or banned. Even in recent years, with Lee’s son, Lee Hsien Loong, occupying the prime minister’s office, the harassment of dissidents has continued, as has the enforcement of pettier measures, such as the ban on chewing gum. In 2010, introducing a report that documented some of the regime’s practices, a senior official at Human Rights Watch described Singapore as “the textbook example of a politically repressive state.”

3. When you read the whole article one thing strikes me

Despite their griping about the dictatorial nature of a potential Trump Presidency, all that really matters to them is "free stuff", Freedom be damned.

Singapore? Great health care

Mexico and the drug lord's war? So what? You have plenty of fellow expats around to gripe about Trump with.

Ecuador? Sure it's grindingly poor, but you can live cheap, and aren't those funny little locals so friendly?

Austria? Hey, people are really happy and then there's that free childcare.

Canada? Well they're just so nice there and there's that free healthcare again.

I have a suggestion for all of these people who want their every material need supplied to them by the State. There's a place for you right here in the US. It's called prison. They'll feed and clothe you there, give you all the health care you need, and you can get a college degree on somebody else's dime. It's a liberal's paradise.

4. I'm not getting the

'happy Austrian people' thing at all. The times I've been there the population I came into contact with didn't seem particularly happy or very pleasant to be around. To me, there's a big difference in German and Austrian outlooks and personalities. The Swiss kind of fall somewhere in between. I much prefer Germans.

5. I've never been to Germany

But I have been to Austria, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland. Of that group, the Swiss seemed the nicest. However even there it varied by region. Ticino, which is Italian Switzerland was far more open and friendly than, say Chur or Bad Ragaz, in the heart of German Switzerland. Vaduz, Liechtenstein was very proper, if not a bit uptight. Both those two I swear they washed every street, sidewalk and building every single night. It was creepy clean.

7. Yeah, Switzerland

was was uber clean; I loved that aspect of it. Try Germany some time. Although with the problems Europe is having right now I'm not anxious to go back any time soon. We're going as far as Ireland in October.

8. Nor are we

For the time being I suspect we are confining ourselves to this hemisphere. There is a lot more of the West I have yet to see, along with Central and South America.
