There's been discussion about Discouraged Workers being at a high for years, not seen in decades...

... with the common reply being that is was only because so many of working age were retiring. I recall Nancy Pelosi making a comment about how it was GOOD that so many could take time off to enjoy themselves!

Then too, you hear that the Bush recession was SO bad, Obama had to struggle mightily to overcome it. And as Obama "struggled" year after year after year, his apologists kept blaming Bush year after year after year.

We're in Obama's FINAL year, and the Discouraged Worker figure has remained higher than in 2008 for every Obama year, as shown.

The BLM definition?

Not in Labor Force, Searched For Work and Available, Discouraged Reasons For Not Currently Looking

Here the chart going back to 1994...

1. China and Mexico don't have this problem?

Places like the Ukraine seem to be hiring record numbers of people for large companies? I don't understand maybe these people should become refugees over there? There are lots of jobs look at places like monster and see all the tech jobs available in India ! They may have to start an H1-B type program soon to fill them all.

I wonder why they are hiring so much since this administrations biggest priority from day one with a laser like focus has been on everything but the economy. Err I mean on creating McJobs and getting that minimum wage up there .
Plus you don't have to struggle over what restroom to use anymore , this makes us a world class country for a change. Then you have that wonderful health care coverage that everyone loves so much, saved us so much money and kept our costs down.

Don't fret thought the trade deals in the works now will make these look like the good ole days as people discover they people they kept trusting to lead us , got rich and the rest of us get more time off. Like those people who only can find work 30 hours a week or less don't have to worry about working a full 40. 30 is the new 40 , thanks ACA .
