Veterans scandal risks engulfing Obama

Well, what do you know... the boy King has found himself in more trouble.

(note to my Disc friends, in this case "boy" is not a racist thing, "Boy King" is a term used to describe someone with the position and the power but without the maturity and wisdom to rule)

http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/328546c0-dd10-11e3-8546-00144feabdc0.html#axzz31vYhzYIA

Richard Griffin, the department’s acting inspector general, admitted on Thursday that its review could lead to criminal charges. In the first political casualty of the scandal, Robert Petzel, the department’s undersecretary for heath, resigned on Friday.

If the evidence of mismanagement continues to accumulate, the Obama administration will find itself not in another partisan knife-fight, but under fire from both parties in a Congress where the uniformed military is venerated.

3. You mean the way Reagan knew nothing...

...about arms sales to Iran that were arranged right in the White House?

Guess what? Presidents cannot keep track of everything that happens in the government. Now, if this happened at Obama's direct behest...go get 'im!

5. Psssst

Reagan hasn't been POTUS in over 25 years.

Don't tell any of the other liberals. We'll see how long it takes them to catch on.

9. I think the Holy Grail will be when Republicans can link the VA -> Obamacare -> BENGhazi!!!!111

Yeah, this is wishful thinking by our con friends. House sets budgets and House/Senate does oversight. They really ought to understand how our government works.

Cut 'em some slack.

6. Well, turns out some idiots in the VA hospitals

decided to lie and cover up for an inability to meet the workload.

While these folks have to go, the fact that VA can't keep up stems largely from Congress' failures to appropriate adequate resources... and this has been so for decades. VA hospitals are operated on threads of a shoestring. The system was stressed before '90s Desert Storm. With two war fronts in this last decade, the system is now beyond the breaking point.

10. That's exactly right.

More and more vets are coming into the VA system and funding has not nearly kept up with the surge.

8. Once the GOP stops cutting funding to veterans then I will believe they care about veterans

This does appear to be a real scandal, and while the Obama administration certainly deserves some of the blame the Republicans are far from innocent in this. When Republicans want to cut funding to everything then they need to own the effects those cuts have, they can't cut funding and then put all the blame on Obama when corners get cut as a result of being underfunded and understaffed.

Both parties incessantly try to force add on legislation into these bills that should be bipartisan.

Or hold hearings on Benghazi.

The VA will be good to go then!

...the problem is just magnified so well right now due to a higher volume of veterans seeking services. ESPECIALLY during a drawdown.

15. What did anyone expect?

The shear amount of veterans that need medical care thanks to bushco is going to be a huge long term burden to deal with.

Bush and his administration have set us all up for a long term ass reaming.

25. Luckily under Obamco™

There's never an issue . He rides a Unicorn through the wards showing his Nobel peace prize (next to his drone marksmanship bolo badge with GITMO Q-bar) and all is magically well.

There were more veterans in need of care after WWII, Korea, Vietnam than ever under Bushco™

Seems a lot of the Vietnam era guys have been really eating it up as they age. Almost everyone I know, nope scratch that, every Vietnam vet I know (3) has cancer related to agent orange.

18. Another chance for the Right look foolish while scandal mongering

Republicans will use just about any lame excuse out there, in order to avoid doing their own jobs.

Sure, those VA branches screwed up and I'm sure that the local officials responsible will be revealed and will lose their jobs.

But you do know there's no reason to pin any of this on The President, right? That is, unless you're some hell-bent Republican who's always trying to make mountains out of molehills in vain attempts to take the guy down.

You can always tell what a man is all about by examining his obsessions.

22. See I give him some slack on it

The VA has had these issues since 1946. it had had to deal with over 20 million veterans since then. My Grandfather had issues being treated for mustard gas injuries suffered in the Argonne @ the VA during the 50's. My Father had to jump through hoops because they said his shrapnel injuries from North Africa were not service related as his records burned in 1972 at St. Louis. One of my uncles spent time in a Horrible conditions at a VA hospital in the Bronx in 1970.

My Own experiences with the VA have been mostly good since 2005. First day I arrived I was given hearing, eye, blood tests, X-rays( You cant have an MRI if you have bullets or shell fragments in you as it will pull them out), I went to physical therapy 4 days a week and regained use of my right arm again. My only beef was being advised to put in for a 30% PTSD claim when I have no such symptoms. The counselor said it was free money. A fellow NCO who retired died after 2 doctors gave him conflicting medications. Dropped dead in his living room in front of the kids at age 39.

VA also now treats vets for non service related reasons, I've seen 80 somethings getting Viagra scrips, don't tell me thats service related.

VA Problems are long term since the days of Truman and I cant blame Shinseki(though I loathe him)

These were problems under Bush, Clinton and everybody else. And it's been Republicans who consistently cut funding for the VA
