1. The guy was no good.
But the video is pretty damning. Is it true that both officers' body cams were"malfunctioning" at the time of the shooting?

Which is not a surprise

14. Why?
They are just clipped to their shirt. Do you think that at the distance they were at with Sterling it would have shown more?
I am actually going to say that body camera footage would probably help their case had they worked but I doubt that even if they had stayed attached there would be any good footage. |

15. People seem to think body cams are a magic cure all
Their not, their a tool that when used right can prove guilt or innocence.
Most are being worn on the chest, if you get into a struggle they can be knocked off |

16. Just being a smartass.
The Alton Sterling killing seems, at this juncture, to be an overreaction, to say the least...but Sterling's actoins are certainly contributory. And while it probably shouldn't matter in the cold, rational analysis of teh cops' actions, I can't deny that I'm not losing sleep of the death of a violent pedophile.
I don't know enough yet about the Philando Castile killing to offer any sort of opinion other than it certainly looks very bad at this point, with the limited info available. Reserving judgement... |

17. I agree on the Castile shooting
Not enough info, all we have is the vid from the girlfriend after the shooting.
My theory on the Sterling case is the cops were on a call about a man waving a gun. Being good cops they were familiar with his record and knew he had a record of having a firearm while under restriction as a felon. They confronted him, he resisted and that was the end of that |

22. The police received a call because a homeless man called 911 and said that
Sterling waved the gun around an threatened to shoot the homeless man for asking him if he had an spare change. He then resisted arrest.

4. Administrative Leave is SOP for a shooting
I don't believe Obama's (tainted) DOJ is necessary.
Police responded to a call that he had brandished a gun on someone, he was non-compliant, he had a gun. He got shot Do EXACTLY what the Cop orders you to do and survive ![]() |

5. I think the Baton Rouge residents understand that Alton was a kiddiefucker and multiple felon.
I doubt they miss him too much. Hell, for some of them, it's likely that the cops eliminated the competition.

11. Notice how their defending this thugs 2nd Amendment rights now
Bottom line, this guy would have been known to the cops in the area from his past record. They rolled on a man with a gun call and found this guy illegally carrying a weapon.....he struggled and they shot him.
End of story, good shoot |

18. This guy's criminal record doesn't magically make this a justifiable killing.
He was on his back on the ground.
He never brandished a weapon. A panicked cop shot and killed him. It doesn't look like a justifiable homicide. I guess we'll see what the grand jury says. |

20. Funny that you, of all people, should use words like "magically justify"
in defense of someone killed by cops when you despicably "magically justified" the savage, cowardly murder of a 13-year-old Jewish girl asleep in her bed at the hands of a Palestinian terrorist.
http://www.discussionist.com/1014276136#post8 She was in her bed asleep. She never brandished a weapon. Magical indeed... |

21. Good Shoot
Cops came in "hot" on a "man with a gun" call.
If the idiot offender would have just complied, gone limp, and not resist the officers so they could secure his weapon, he'd still be alive. Will never understand why brothers of color still fight or run away from the police. When you are the subject of an arrest or detention, the best thing you can do for everybody is JUST COMPLY and not fight back, wiggle, or squirm. Hit the deck, face flat, and spread 'em. You can beat the rap, not the ride. |
