Queen of Katwe

I got the movie because I play chess regularly.

I enjoyed the film, despite the usual struggling underdog sports movie tropes. They didn't focus on actual chess play that much but I forgive them for making the film accessible to non players.

They did, however, depict a sweet Bishop sacrifice to gain a smothered mate.

The depiction of poverty in Uganda reminded me of my time in Guatemala, which just goes to show how universal humanity is at our most basic level.

The actor credits at the end were really cool. They showed the actor then brought in the actual person depicted in the film while showing a blurb about their current lives.

I'd easily watch it again.

I won't lie, the actress that plays the mother kinda had it going on.

1. I haven't played Chess in years. Sixth Grade Champion in '72.

Did they use "One Night in Bangkok" as the theme song for the movie?
