Melania Trump wont wear a head scarf in Saudi Arabia

Melania Trump won’t have to wear a head scarf in Saudi Arabia

Melania Trump won’t have to dress in strict Muslim fashion while she accompanies her husband Donald Trump this weekend to Saudi Arabia, the first country on the president’s itinerary for his first official overseas trip.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir was quoted as telling media Thursday that America’s First Lady won’t be required to dress conservatively or tone down her usual high-fashion look, which often includes bold colors, stiletto heels and the occasional low neckline.

Update: Ivanka Trump is also accompanying her father to Saudi Arabia as his White House assistant. She and husband Jared Kushner, a White House adviser, are both practicing Orthodox Jews and had to receive a rabbinical dispensation to travel on Friday, the Jewish Sabbath, a White House official told Politico. Ivanka will presumably be giving the same pass in terms of dress as her stepmother.
Unlike democrats, Trump's people won't wear headscarves.

8. I agree, no grovelling.

That said, if it is customary and both parties bow to each other I would not have a problem with that.

4. I am pretty sure that no head coverings will be the least offensive things that happen.

There is nothing wrong with showing respect for other cultures when a guest in THEIR FUCKING COUNTRY.

It isn't FREEDUM to go to your neighbor's house for dinner in your underwear and spit on the floor like you (collective hypothetical, not personal to OP) do at home.

5. There is no obligation to wear the garb of a religion if you do not belong to said religion.

None what so ever.

Get over it.

6. Covering one's head is not required for foreign women in Saudi Arabia.

In fact, there are many political figures that have decided to forego that custom - Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Angela Merkel, Theresa May, Condoleezza Rice, etc. I find it odd that this issue is even a story.

What percentage of undocumented immigrants rape, murder, sell drugs and engage in human trafficking?

Impress us all with your sociological genius.

Forcing women to wear head scarves because of religious laws is wrong. Cultural relativism is nonsense.

And the West doesn't enforce this very low standard of decency because it thinks of women as second-class citizens.

19. How about when she meets the Pope? I believe it is customary for women to cover their head.

Vatican protocol states that for papal hearings, women should wear long sleeves, formal black clothing and a black veil to cover the head. Since the 1980’s, however, the dress code (tailcoat for men, black dress and veil for women) has become far less rigid.

Only in private hearings with the Pope are women required to cover their heads and wear mourning clothes. In hearings with the Holy Father, women are required to wear a dress with a sober cut and colour, which should preferably be black. At the end of the pontifical ceremony, the faithful are called to greet the Pope by kissing his hand. Women may wear a dress but it must not be low cut, it must cover the shoulders and the skirt part should be below the knee.

23. I don't agree with this.

How can we ask people visiting or immigrating to our country that they should assimilate to our culture if our leaders won't do it in their country? Will President Trump wear a yamaka at Holy sites in Israel?

Also I think the first lady would look hot in a hijab.

gays there. But if I absolutely had to go there I wouldn't wear a headscarf because that's a symbol of how they oppress women.
