77% of Democrats with 4-Year Degrees Think Sex Not Determined at Birth

Hoo Boy

Three out of four college-educated Democrats seem to believe that a man can be a woman if he just says so, regardless of his biology, genetics, and genitalia, according to a skewed survey conducted by the Pew Research Center.

The main question in the August-to-September survey of 4,573 people is built on the phrase: “sex assigned at birth.” But that phrase was invented by transgender activists to help them claim that every person’s sex is independent of their biology and that a newborn’s sex should not be unfairly “assigned” by the doctors and parents who examine the newborns’ biology and visible genitalia. The Pew survey asked:

Which statement comes closer to your views, even if neither is exactly right?

Whether someone is a man or a woman is determined by the sex they were assigned at birth

Someone can be a man or a woman even if that is different from the sex they were assigned at birth

According to Pew’s write-up:

The survey … finds that Democrats with a bachelor’s degree or more education are more likely than other Democrats to say a person’s gender can be different from the sex they were assigned at birth. About three-quarters (77%) of Democrats with a bachelor’s degree or more say this, compared with 60% of Democrats with some college and 57% of those with a high school diploma or less. No such divide exists among Republicans.

Most African-Americans and a large percentage of Latinos seem to disagree that the parents and doctors’ are just guessing. According to Pew:

Democrats’ views also differ by race and ethnicity. Some 55% of black Democrats and 41% of Hispanic Democrats say a person’s gender is determined by their sex assigned at birth, a view shared by just 24% of white Democrats.

7. (Biological) sex most certainly is.

(Social) gender...not so much. Sometimes the two don't match (albeit not nearly as often as all the current hubbub might lead one to believe). It's not really that complicated...

8. True. While biological sex is determined at birth, it is subject to change if the individual self-

identifies as a member of the opposite sex. (And if anybody's wondering, I've a 4-year college degree.)

12. Tovera makes a good point.

I think the instances of people who self-identify as the opposite sex is extraordinarily small. Last I remember, US Census data put the number of homosexual population at about 1.6%. I imagine the percentage of people who self-identify as the opposite sex (distinct from homosexuality) at much less than that.

So where do I stand on the matter?

I think identifying as the opposite sex or homosexuality is an aberration/abnormality. Not evil. Not a crime. Not a cause for the majority to harm or harass this minority. I think society should tolerate those who are otherwise able to function in society. They should be accorded common civil courtesy. I oppose the current push from media/leftist culture who want to celebrate this abnormality. I don't think culture and society should be turned upside down to accommodate an extremely small fraction of the population. No more than I think society should be mandated to accommodate Basque language speakers in the U.S.

Those who are abnormal however should expect to receive more scrutiny or notice from those in society. Unfortunately, it is human nature for people to separate themselves from "others". Or to notice "others". Being other can take many forms. Being weird. Being abnormally fat, skinny, tall, short, hairy, etc. It can can result from abnormal behavior such as wearing clothing unusual to the culture and time. I can guarantee that if I dressed like this on a daily basis in contemporary United States

that I would attract a lot of attention. Much of it negative. Just for being different. Even those this mode of dress in other times and cultures would be considered normal and would not be remarked upon.

If I insisted upon dressing in the above manner I can expect that many employers probably won't want to hire me. Simply because I have now become the focus or potential impediment to the business services.

And if anybody is wondering I have a graduate degree.

13. If you say so.

But then, you "identify" as a South American country.
