More Americans Move to Norway Than the Other Way Around

By Jonas O Bergman

While U.S President Donald Trump wants to welcome Norwegians rather than people from some other countries he’s reported to have called “shitholes,” the richest Scandinavians aren’t exactly beating down the door.

In fact, more people are moving from the U.S. to Norway than the other way around. In 2016, 895 people emigrated from the U.S. to Norway, while only 502 went the other way, according to Statistics Norway.

There are, of course, many people of Norwegian ancestry living in the U.S. An estimated 800,000 Norwegians moved across the Atlantic from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s.

1. To people of Norway, we're living in the shithole.

5. True. Norway has a lot of nice things not available in America such as free college, universal

health care, and paid paternity leave. If I were a Norwegian I wouldn't dream of emigrating to America.

Thanks to massive gas and oil exports! They alkso have substantially higher tax rates as well.

Betcha they don't have a large problem with illegals on welfare either sucking tensof billions .

8. Economists have even noted that the Norwegian economy isn't funtioning as good as it could.

The conclusion is that even with all the oil and gas money there state socialism produces a noticeable drag effect.

then again, Argentina insists that socialism is a good idea or sustainable and wears blinders when it comes to all of the human pain and misery it always manages to cause.

3. Not surprising

I have travelled to Norway more times than I can count and I lived there for 6 months. Norway is a great country. The only negative that would bother me is the long and dark winters. There are no economic reasons for Norwegians to emigrate to the US. I am surprised that the amount of people leaving the US for Norway is only slightly higher than the number of Norwegians leaving Norway for the US when you consider that the US has roughly 60 times the population of Norway.

4. There are more Norwegians in Minnesota and North Dakota

than there are in Norway.
