Good on this pub chain

Nothing irritates me more than going into a place where people are supposed to be talking, interacting, and the like and seeing everyone like zombies buried in their phones.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5620031/Wetherspoons-close-Twitter-Facebook-Instagram-accounts.html

JD Wetherspoon is closing down its Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts for all its 900 pubs and head office with immediate effect because its boss says 'people spend too much time' on social media.

Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said: 'We are going against conventional wisdom that these platforms are a vital component of a successful business.

'I don't believe that closing these accounts will affect our business whatsoever, and this is the overwhelming view of our pub managers.

'It's becoming increasingly obvious that people spend too much time on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and struggle to control the compulsion.

'We will still be as vocal as ever through our Wetherspoon News magazine, as well as keeping the press updated at all times.

'We will also be maintaining our website and the Wetherspoon app and encourage customers to get in touch with us via our website or by speaking with the manager at their local pub.'

2. I've never understood it

It seems to be more women than men. You'll see guys just sitting there completely ignored by their partner while she never sets the phone down.

3. there was a day....maybe 15 years ago, when I thought

it was the coolest thing ever. I had to have my fingers on the latest software, or gadget that came out. That started with my technology fascination in the late 80's...
In the early 90's, an engineer fresh out of college, I got even worse. It wasn't long before I abandoned my career field and entered the IT field.
That changed at some point 10 years ago or so. Now, it drives me nuts. I'm so sick of it... the latest "thing" that comes out is just like the last one with a new whistle on it. I absolutely loath talking on a shitty cell phone shaped like a wafer thin brick. And using it for internet access is even worse. And that's not to even mention watching me try to type on the SOB... I have pretty large hands, it's near impossible for me to press one "button" on a smartphone keyboard.
My sons get irritated with me as well because there are too many cell phone rules... no speakerphone EVER, phones get left on the charging station at night, and when we are out, phones stay in their damned pockets unless there is an emergency of some sort... which never happens.
Even my employees have learned I won't answer the damned thing... I'll only call them back if they send me a text msg exclaiming an emergency.
Seriously, the thing is my albatross and I want it gone. Every time it rings, my day gets worse.

/end rant
