Scot Peterson, disgraced Parkland school cop, starts getting $8,702-a-month pension

Scot Peterson, a former deputy with the Broward County Sheriff's Office, has reportedly started to receive a hefty pension — three months after he retired amid the aftermath of the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida

Peterson, a 33-year law enforcement veteran, was the resource deputy stationed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14 when 17 people were killed by gunfire.

As one of the largest mass shootings in modern U.S. history unfolded, Peterson never entered the building where alleged gunman Nikolas Cruz was opening fire and instead took up a position outside the building that was under attack.

Peterson, 55, was widely criticized for his actions and Broward Sheriff Scott Israel opened an internal investigation. The deputy resigned and retired on Feb. 23, "rather than face possible termination."

Peterson, the Sun-Sentinel reported, has received a monthly state pension of $8,702.35 since April. He was paid $101,879.03 last year, according to the news outlet, which cited sheriff's office records.

I don’t care how many years he was a cop, when Duty Called he didn’t answer. He needs to answer by losing that pension then he needs to suck on gun barrel

1. I hope he hears the screams every day for the rest of his life.

2. Pieces of shit like him

Have no conscious he would do it all over again.

He took that job at the school to stay safe until he could collect that retirement. It was not about protecting the students it was about keeping himself safe.

4. I can't but

think he was calculating that retirement in his head while listening to the gunfire, then decided "fuck it" I got too much to lose.

5. I've come to the same conclusion.

When the story initially broke I thought that the Sheriff's Department was regarding the SRO job as a "pre-retirement" post and selected the officers accordingly. This guy's behavior reinforces that.

7. When you look at the story objectively

The list of villains is amazing

(In MY order of blame)

Not one of them has been held accountable except Cruz. How that Dimwit is still Sheriff is beyond me

8. "How that Dimwit is still Sheriff is beyond me"

"Forget it, Gunslinger. It's Broward County".

*cultural reference*

9. Even his Deputies understand

Deputy union says it has 'no confidence' in Broward Sheriff Scott Israel

10. IMHO, that should be enough to trigger a recall election.

This moron is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the county; if his deputies have "no confidence" in his leadership the county should vote.

6. My guess is he thought being a school guard was a safe way to

work until retirement. I wonder if other places treat those duties with little actual regard of what the role actually is about. I noticed the police stationed a few years ago at my daughter's high school didn't look like they could pass a physical Perhaps it is seen as an easy duty and low on the priority list.

When we have all seen the vids of public servants rushing headfirst into danger this guy is a clown no doubt.
