Poutrage!! Racist Christmas tree

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/minneapolis-police-erected-a-%E2%80%98racist%E2%80%99-christmas-tree-in-a-majority-black-neighborhood/ar-BBQpZVa?ocid=chromentp

I suppose, I can see where the American African community might, and this is just a MIGHT, mind you, might have found this offensive:

Quote: Hanging from the Christmas tree inside a Minneapolis Police Department precinct were half-crushed cans of Steel Reserve malt liquor and crumpled bags of Takis chips and Funyuns. There was a cup from the fried-chicken joint Popeyes and two packs of Newport cigarettes — pieces of actual garbage accented by a single strip of yellow crime-scene tape that didn’t quite cut it as tinsel. E/Q

Obviously the AA community can't take a joke.

Firings and sensitivity training are on the way I am sure.

1. I know about the Newports (Obama's brand) and the fried chicken and malt liquor gags ...

but what's the connection to Takis chips and Funyuns? I grew up in a black neighborhood and even I don't understand those two.

3. Stupidity on display

These officers are clearly tone deaf. How stupid do you have to be to not realize that this is racist?

7. This is my take

If a comedien had used malt liquor in some kind of joke about African Americans, I would not have a problem with it. This is an example of a stereotype that does not cause any damage.

The fact that this was a police department puts it in a different light for me.

9. The same type of joke as when a black person points out how whitey cant dance worth a shit

Or dunk, or whatever else.

You know, the type of joke that indicates a trait of people in this case malt liquor and menthol cigarettes, both of which are prevalent in the AA community over whites.

It was tasteless, uncalled for, etc, but endless poutrage causes people like me to laugh at it from time to time, even when in this case it's probably justified.

Put another way, maybe if the poutrage would be saved for cases like this instead of each and every supposed offense throughout the day "people of color" suffer under in America, maybe I'd care more when I heard about it.

10. Not remotely the same...public officials vs. private individuals.

These officers need to be gone from the police force.

11. They aren't already?

You honestly believe their firing has not already been preordained?

12. Firing police officers isn't that easy (and it shouldn't be).
