Could someone military or law enforcement watch the video in this story and explain.

Did the female cop do something wrong? I'm just glad the male copper was there to sort the baddie out.

1. The female let her guard down

As for her partner he did the right thing.

2. I know her partner saved her life but I was just wondering what she did wrong.

Did she get too close to the suspect when she was checking his ID? Should she have made him keep his hands where she could see them?

The squealing probably saved her life because it certainly got her partner hoofing it over at a high rate of speed. If she had said calmly, "Sir, let go of my gun" the other cop might not have seen there was a problem.

4. I would say she got too close, and she never

Have stood directly in line with the window.

3. Tactically she may have violated some department procedure for traffic stops

But the shoot was righteous

Martell was armed
Martell attempted to kill her
Martell refused to drop the gun
so the next officer on scene shot Martell dead

6. She should have grabbed his wrist and dropped her full body weight.

It would have likely broken his arm across the window frame.

That's a personal preference, not a policy.

7. well...

She was gullible.
Lefty is to blame here.

1- Lefty told her that men and women are exactly the same.
2- Lefty told her that anything a man could do, she could do equally.
3- Then lefty told her that anyone who said otherwise would be a "misogynist".

All three are false, but she believed it. Lefty nearly got this woman killed.

8. This illustrates

why the first moments in a vehicle stop are the most dangerous...depending on department she might have been trained to not place her body in front of the window like that but to approach and stand more to the rear frame of the front door and take a good look inside.

Once you realize it's somebody's soccer mom standing more into the window is probably safe, but there's a reason officers in high crime areas don't approach and stand in the open window.

They approach against the vehicle from the rear and with a light, and if at all uncertain tell the driver to keep his hands on the wheel until you can ascertain what's in the vehicle.

The bad guy is dead, and everyone else went home maybe shaken a little but safe.

10. A friend in SCPD suggested to me anytime I am stopped at night by Police

Turn on the interior lights, windows down
Engine off, Hazards on
keys on the dash
hands in View

Said since most police patrol alone to a RMP being able to immediately see inside it lowers their pucker factor

13. Agreed

that's great advice. Anything that lets them know you're just a regular citizen changes the nature of the stop almost instantly.

I've done work with my local chief to obtain funding for a variety of youth programs, he and I share a sense of community that believes sport and access to sport for low income children can help them stay out of trouble. It's proving true for the majority in our community and those funding sources are providing low cost/no cost access.

Point being I have access to lots of police resources in my community including the officers themselves and their advice squares nicely with what you've been told.

9. My take is that she lost focus on the driver and he got the drop on her

Could happen to any one out there. I do not see anything particularly gender related, more inexperience. My take is that she should have gone prone on the ground while drawing or moved to the rear of the car and then dropped down. She knew she had backup and the best thing she could do is give him a clear shot.

12. That woman needs to not be a cop.

She's CLEARLY out of shape.
She didn't control the scene
She panicked and screamed like a little bitch when she should have been fighting
