1. Good video, but the deal is, the Demos, primitives, and the lorgnette-and-pearls crowd

see no "downside" to any of this.

2. Absolutely. Not sure how long we have

but we are definitely on the downward trajectory.

Seems to be accelerating in the last twenty years.

4. Way to late; the decline of the west was underway before WW I; WW I & II destroyed it.

Western Civilization as it had existed since the Renaissance was in decline at the end of the 19th century in the Belle Epoch. The World Wars destroyed Western Civilization. The cultural hegemony that arose in the US was a pale, distorted imitation that then washed back over Europe and dissolved the cultural remains of Western Civilization.

5. Yawn. If we all just gave up our rationality and believed in a Sky Daddy again,

all would be right with the world. Science started Yahweh onto the path of irrelevance 400 years ago. Darwin drove a garlic tipped stake through his heart 150 years ago. Arnold knew that and wrote about it in 1867...

Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the Ægean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.

The Sea of Faith
Was once, too, at the full, and round earth’s shore
Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled.
But now I only hear
Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar,
Retreating, to the breath
Of the night-wind, down the vast edges drear
And naked shingles of the world.
- Matthew Arnold, from Dover Beach

We are new at this, at being transient sparks of intelligence in an indifferent, harsh universe. We are just finding our way and we certainly don’t need the pontification of Mr. 71%.
