1. This is why Dems call for more responsible gun ownership...

A drunk guy staggering around in his underwear while mishandling a shotgun? Is this acceptable in your camp?
Classes, training, range discipline. All things every gun owner should have before being allowed to handle a weapon.

2. You can't legislate against stupid

They either end up killing themselves, which is fine by me, or going away for a long, long time and end up as someone's prison bitch which is equally OK by me.

3. It's not about legislation...

It's about attitude.
A person is allowed to have a gun, but handling them responsibly is everyone's job.
You have to call people out on their stupidity, especially when handling something that can kill someone.

4. Oh, well there I agree completely.

The reason I posted this was to call out stupidity.

6. It absolutely IS about legislation.

Rights don't need permission or training to exercise, and they certainly should not need government approval.

You'd be the first to say that yourself if we were talking about voting or exercising the first amendment.

8. You make no sense...

You need a license to drive a car, cut hair, and catch a fish.
But any ass-ramming moron can carry a gun?
Maybe on your planet,
Do you want idiots carrying deadly weapons around your family? You think you can protect them?
You're fucking dreaming.
There are plenty of laws on the books that regulate our rights. You can go boating or driving, but you can't do it drunk. A sensible regulation of our rights to keep everyone safe
.

11. To you.

"You need a license to drive a car"

Incorrect. You need a license to drive a car on PUBLIC PROPERTY.

No such license is required on private property, nor is such a license required to OWN a car.

Driving a car on public property isn't an enumerated constitutionally protected right.

"cut hair"

Nope. I can cut my own or my wifes hair all day long without breaking a law. What you mean is a license is required to PROFESSIONALLY cut hair.

Professionally cutting hair isn't an enumerated constitutionally protected right.

"catch a fish. "

I can catch fish in my own stocked pond or at a private fish resort like http://stay.fishnfrycampground.com/ without a license.

Catching fish in public waters isn't an enumerated constitutionally protected right.

"But any ass-ramming moron can carry a gun?"

Now you're jumnping from own to carry. You definitely shouldn't have a gun.

"Do you want idiots carrying deadly weapons around your family?"

If they're genuinely too dangerous to have a gun, remove them from society through legitimate legal means.

Problem solved.

I don't want 'well meaning or not' clueless idiots mucking about with enumerated constitutionally protected rights.

"There are plenty of laws on the books that regulate our rights. You can go boating or driving, but you can't do it drunk. "

You're a fucking idiot if you think boating or driving are comparable to enumerated constitutionally protected rights, like those protected by the first amendment, second amendment, and so on.

They aren't.

Try again, if you're actually able to formulate an argument without comparing apples to submarines.

5. Just as is the case with

voting, there are lots of people who should make the voluntary choice not to leverage certain rights. However, that doesn't mean they should be denied the right should they choose to avail themselves of its benefits.

9. Nobody is denying them anything...

you have to be socially responsible when you are carrying around deadly force. The proper use and training of a firearm just makes good sense.

10. The problem is

the tendency for people to go from some people shouldn't have a thing to dictating that they may not have the thing.
