approves of mass murder.

And ironically, I believe most of the right wing posters here would have risked their lives or laid it down to stop the madman, had they been there.

I hope that I would step up if it was my duty and time to do so.

1. Thanks for that.

Last thing we need is for these tragedies to be used for partisans to club the other side over the head with.

As for risking my life: I'd like to think so but you never know until you are actually in a situation like this.

3. i tend to disagree

like at that florida high school, when the shooting starts the "good guys with guns" are on the internet bragging about their firearms and trying to prove that young white males in red hats who shoot people of color are really democrats.

4. Absolutely...

Especially when we find out that trying to pin these lunatics to the wall under some political philosophy is impossible. These guys were all over the place like the confused young men that they were.

5. I agree

It's not a right or left thing, it's humanity.
I also hope I would step up in that situation.
I'm actually a little worried that I may be finding out.
We got a young kid that just started at my shop, he just doesn't seem to be right in the head and is incompetent at pretty much everything.
He was given to me for a week and I sent him back to first shift with the statement that he was a safety hazard and if he is given back to me he has the option of mopping the floor or going home.
The first shift crew is brutal to him...I can see in his eyes that he is slipping over the edge.
I see nothing good coming of the situation.
All my guys have a gun in their toolbox, I can't say the same for the guys on first shift.

7. I hope I'm wrong

It's not a scenario I wish to see play out.
I've seen it happen before and had a "hunch" before hand.
But that shop literally had an annual sacrifice every spring.
Had a suicide, stabbing, murder suicide and after security was beefed up an airplane nosedived into the parking lot.
Cursed ground for sure.

8. Holy crap!

I worked in a plating shop in the early 80's.

One time a guy got into debt with some coke dealers.

He went to the bathroom and didn't come out.

They found him blue and convulsing, drank copper cyanide solution.

They gave him an atropine injection kept on hand, made it to the er and survived.

9. Weird things happen at work

I've seen folks lose body parts and have come close myself.
But that place had issues, there was a graveyard on the edge of the parking lot from the old "state school" none of the gravestones had names, just numbers.
The old folks claimed there were multiple bodies in every grave.
There was another similar graveyard about 15 miles out of town in the middle of a swamp.
The state kept it somewhat maintained but other than that I don't know of anyone that ever passed through the gate, even just to check it out, not even curious kids
There are no records of who is buried in either of those places.

10. Sounds familiar

Once worked in a plastics shop that bordered a Victorian cemetery.

Strange things.

11. Not me. Not when weapons are involved.

I've stepped in plenty to help people being beaten up, sometimes by multiple people and took an ass kicking for it, but I already know what it's like to have someone open fire in my vicinity, with people being killed.
Get the fuck out of there.
I'm not jumping in front of bullets for anyone except family.

14. If my family is with me, I'm getting them to safety first.

If they are not, I'd give it a shot.

16. No kids, but my wife is my first priority

She tends to be a take-no-prisoners, take-no-shit kind of person, so I suspect I'd be a bit busy actually holding her back.

A few years back we were in a parking lot where we say some asshole haul off and hit his wife, right in front of the kids, to boot. Without saying a word she double-times it over to him, hauled him around by the shoulder, and firmly kicked him in the groin as hard as she could. He dropped to the ground, she turned to the wife/girlfriend/whatever and said "leave him" and then walked back as the lady was crying and said to me "OK, let's go".

In terms of people here, she would be very similar to His Daughter.

I have loved at least one very strong woman in my day.

Grateful I have those memories!
