Can Americans still Coexist?

That the yawning chasm between blue and red America continues to widen is obvious. It has gotten to the point, frankly, where one wonders what we still have in common as Americans. Today’s instance is a resolution by San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors labeling the National Rifle Association, America’s largest and most successful civil rights group, a “domestic terrorism organization.”

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors passed a resolution on Tuesday declaring the National Rifle Association a “domestic terrorism organization” due to its opposition to more stringent gun-control legislation.

I am so old, I can remember when a typical second grader knew the difference between someone you disagree with and a terrorist. But today’s liberals don’t function at that level.

The resolution accuses the NRA of not only resisting legislative reforms that its drafters believe would help curtail the country’s “epidemic of gun violence,” but also of “incit gun owners to acts of violence.”

This is insane. The NRA obviously has not incited anyone to violence. On the contrary, it has trained many thousands of Americans in gun safety and has saved countless lives by doing so.

“All countries have violent and hateful people, but only in America do we give them ready access to assault weapons and large-capacity magazines thanks, in large part, to the National Rifle Association’s influence,” the resolution says.

The “assault weapon” and “large-capacity magazine” dodges are too familiar to require comment. One remarkable fact about the left’s obsession with banning “assault weapons,” a category without a meaningful definition, is that it has already been tried. The ban was allowed to expire after a decade because it did zero good.

One might ask, what on God’s green Earth does the San Francisco Board of Supervisors have to do with the National Rifle Association?

The resolution also declares the Board’s intent to “limit those entities who do business with the City and County of San Francisco from doing business with this domestic terrorist organization.”

It is hard to know what this means, but the idea, obviously, is to use the Left’s boycott strategy. Whether this is actually implemented, and what effects it may have on banks; hotel, restaurant and retail store chains; and who knows what other businesses, remains to be seen. What we do know is that this action by San Francisco typifies the kind of hateful, irrational conduct that has made any civil political discourse in this country impossible.

2. I think we need to hire the tens of thousands of homeless in SF to put NRA stickers on cars in SF

We can decorate them right up and make sure any citizen who gets violent with one of the homeless goes right straight to jail.

We will call it an exercise of our 1A rights.

3. I wish I lived near Frisco, I'd wear my NRA hat to a council meeting and see what happens

In theory I should be arrested as a terrorist.....and after I win my lawsuit I can change the name of Frisco to NRAland

7. They declared NRA a terrorist organization, if I'm wearing a NRA hat then wouldn't I fit

The definition of terrorist in that city?

Now show my a local, federal or state law that says the NRA is a terrorist organization. They either believe their hype or are windbags.

False arrest is something you can sue a city for. I might lose at the local level but I'll bet real money when it hits the USSC they rule 7-2 in my favor (Ginsberg and the "Wise Latino" will vote their feel feels, the other 2 current liberal justices will vote on the rule of law)

8. How about a big billboad on 80 just east of the city. San Francisco welcomes the NRA.

Put it on private ground and watch them scream.

11. The main problem is

if a liberal disagrees with a conservative, the conservative thinks the liberal is wrong, but accepts that.
If a conservative disagrees with a liberal, the liberal thinks the conservative is EVIL and must DIE!

13. Past the tipping point, IMO.

This nation/culture, as currently constituted, has a pretty limited remaining shelf life, in my estimation. The cultural and political divides have become too great. Unless we want to see things devolve to the point of a hot civil war replacing our current cultural cold war, the nation needs to be split into smaller regional polities. Lots of difficult questions to answer with such a path, but it's better than widespread destruction and bloodshed.

As for that declaration by the SF City Council, _this_ leftist thought it was idiotic (and likely to result in a lawsuit SF can't win, should it come to more than just bullshit virtue signaling to their constituents on the part of the Council). Calling the NRA a terrorist organization ludicrously cheapens the term, which should be reserved for groups like ISIS or al Qaeda.

EDIT: If anyone is interested, I'm not sticking around to see if we manage to pull this off w/o a bloodbath. Emigrating (to Japan) within the next couple years...plans pretty well in motion.

15. You know you'll have to give up the .338 when you move to Japan

I don't have a choice, I'll be here and while I'm getting too old for any fighting I know I have enough goodies on hand to protect and equip my family as needed.

I figure Ohio will be "Red" anyway, outside of the inner city areas most the state and even large areas of the cities like Cincinnati are "Red".

I actually had to go to a shop in the area of Cincinnati that is considered the most liberal (Hyde Park, hobby shop is owned by a liberal couple I know) and wondered about how it would fair in a civil war.

I also thought....thank GOD for the man who invented the sports bra Lots of soccer moms types jogging this morning

14. Reading through this thread....

my answer is a huge NO.

As long as each side sees the other as their enemies, we are screwed.

There are ways to disagree without being disagreeable....or nasty.

We as a nation have lost that ability

As for the right, tRump didn't start it. It's been there for a long time....he only gave his base permission to act like obnoxious assholes. This place, DI, was a pretty nice place at one time.

After the election, it truly became the sewer some at DU called it.

19. Meh....

...without the internet bringing all this Red and Blue divide in my living room daily; I seriously doubt most of us would even know it exists. Meaning: I don't see this shit in my everyday life.

There's no Antifa marching, no KKK, no Nazis, no White Supremacists lurking behind every bush. I would say that for those of us living outside the major cities and metropolitan areas: shit goes on as usual
