Trump Wants to Deal With California Homeless Crisis (I think he's hit a nerve)

Oakland mayor accuses him of 'political posturing' (Well what are you doing about it Bee-Yotch? )

(NEWSER) – President Trump is taking a strong interest in California's homelessness crisis—but some of the state's politicians don't trust his motives. Officials have confirmed that the administration sent a team to Los Angeles for a "fact finding" tour Tuesday, CNN reports. Sources tell the Washington Post that Trump, who has often used the issue to attack the state's Democratic lawmakers, wants the federal government to be more involved and is considering moves including demolishing homeless camps and moving people into government facilities. Trump "has taken notice of the homelessness crisis, particularly in cities and states where the liberal policies are combining to dramatically increase poverty and public health risks," says White House spokesman Judd Deere.

A spokesman for Gov. Gavin Newsom criticized the administration's policies, but said the state is "ready to talk" if Trump is offering "real investment" in housing. Mayors of cities with rising homeless populations also said they were wary of the president's motives, but they would be glad to receive resources from the federal government to deal with the crisis, Politico reports. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf accused Trump of "pre-election political posturing at the expense of our most vulnerable residents." But she added: "We’ve been asking for federal assistance to address homelessness for years, and certainly I would welcome a change in heart from the president on this issue." (The crisis in Los Angeles has been called a "disaster of epic proportions.")

Legitimate Question why the Democrats aren't fixing this. Trump is scaring the bejesus out of them

Watch the Dems try to spin it as Trump's fault. Or, maybe White people. Who knows. It's the crazy years.

trump's idea of herding them into crowded cages without soap or toothpaste is not much of a solution for anyone except the privatized prison inc who will get the contract.

The county pays for medically staffed heroin shooting galleries.

(But if you get caught smoking a cigarette within 25 feet of the doorway then you get a ticket and fine.)

9. Trump sees a problem and wants to fix it. ...

Politicians see a problem and try to ignore it until it grows so big that it can’t be ignored. When that happens the politicians throw large amounts of money at the problem much of which is lost to corruption.

We need more Trumps in this nation and way fewer politicians.

Trump needs to confront the Gov. on that before he allows any of my (our) tax money to get involved.

Cali. should be dealing with it's own problems.

18. Getting homeless off of the streets improves quality of life as well

Either we are nation and all in this together or we are not.

Vote for what you think is best regardng national priorities but look further than the area of the country in which you reside. Otherwise why stay together as a nation?

That last statement was general in nature and not aimed specifically at you.

20. Keeping them off the streets in the first place is not the federal government's responsibility

Back when laws were enforced against drugs, shitting in public and not being able to set up a tent anywhere you damned well please is why this didn't used to happen. When CITY governments allow these things it is what makes the problem start and then continue to fester.

26. Read the OP. This thread is about cities in CA, not farm subsidies.

The two have nothing to do with each other aside from being in the US.

Maybe I should run off on a tangent about home mortgage interest deductions. That's another federal subsidy. If the government didn't do that they could spend the money on homeless shelters.

Let me help you out.

Quad posted, "''if Trump is offering "real investment" in housing''...why should fly-over-country pay for that????"

To which I responded, "For the same reason that the liberal coasts pay for farm subsidies"

I was using farm subisidies as an example in my direct response to Quad's question. He was basically asking why should flyover country pay for a program that they may not directly benefit from. My response, using farm subsides as an example, was basically that we all pay for federaly programs that we may not directly benefit from. My response was not a random tangent but a direct and related response to a comment made by another poster.

My posts were never specifically about farm subsdies. They were just used as an example. That is why I suggested you read my post within the context they written. It was obvious you had not.

And yes, mortgage interest deductions could have been used as an example as well.

Everyone knows this and if he helps solve the problem his legacy will beat even the Kennedy's. He is a genius and democrats can't justify or defend the slums they create.

35. These California politicians aren't going to like Trump's suggestions.

Unlike them. he doesn't automatically ask "How much money should we throw at it?"

My solution would be something like:
Enforce the loitering laws
Enforce the public indecency laws
Enforce the sanitary laws
Enforce the public drug use laws
Enforce the littering laws
Enforce the trespassing laws
Enforce the laws against feeding wild animals

(Notice a pattern here?)

Of course, California politicians aren't real big on law enforcement.

What to do with the "homeless" (bums)?
Round them up, hose them down, evaluate them to see if they can be of some use (productive citizens), euthanize the useless ones.
