forget the bigots, "white supremacists," in the pick-up truck with the Confederate flag

ABC News was offered a preview of a forthcoming documentary about the life of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.....Those of us of a certain age can recall the spectacle of Thomas’ October 1991 Senate confirmation hearings. Law professor Anita Hill’s sexual harassment allegations against Thomas, contained in a “confidential” FBI file, were leaked to the media. She had worked for Thomas at the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Hill’s testimony turned the confirmation hearings into a “trial” of then-Judge Thomas. Sounds almost like the Kavanaugh Senate confirmation process, doesn’t it?

Thomas strongly denied the allegations and called the media frenzy which followed a “high-tech lynching.” After all was said and done, Thomas was confirmed by a 52-48 margin.....

“The worst enemy that the Negro have is this white man that runs around here drooling at the mouth professing to love Negroes and calling himself a liberal, and it is following these white liberals that has perpetuated problems that Negroes have. If the Negro wasn’t taken, tricked or deceived by the white liberal, then Negroes would get together and solve our own problems. I only cite these things to show you that in America, the history of the white liberal has been nothing but a series of trickery designed to make Negroes think that the white liberal was going to solve our problems. Our problems will never be solved by the white man.”

It'll be a long time before I forget a certain spectacle seen on Skins's island, where a member prominent here but on the other side, engaged the MrsCorpio primitive in a long discussion, illuminating the latter that while "other white people" were racist towards people of color, he, the former, was a virtuous exception.
