Obamas Lawyer says Churches may lose tax exempt status if Court rules for Gay Marriage

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/417597/obamas-lawyer-religious-institutions-may-lose-tax-exempt-status-if-court-rules-gay

I'm sure some here will be doing the happy dance.

I just see the land of freedom slouching towards Stalinism

I agree with those calling for the recusal of Kagan and Bader-Ginsberg from this one because they both performed Gay Marriages.

Are they that unethical?

2. Being a staunch believer in God's Word

I believe we followers of Jesus should do what Jesus said

Matthew 22:

17 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?

18 But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?

19 Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.

20 And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?

21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

4. Whether one believes in the divine or not

Churches do amazing work with poor and bring comfort to a lot of people. The Churches should be tax exempt and there should always be a legislative conscience clause.

It's gonna get REAL Ugly if this stands

Which is another reason why I believe SCOTUS is gonna punt it back to the States

5-4 with Kennedy as the swing or 4-3 if Kagan and Ginsberg Recuse (as they should)

5. Why is this applicable?

Why should the income for churches be taxable? It all comes from private donations.

Once again if they revoke for one- there would be a cry to revoke for all.

37. 501 c3 and religious organizations give everything they receive

(less overhead) to causes that would otherwise need to be funded by the state, or else ignored altogether. Their benefits far outweigh the lost tax revenue.

For home interest, charitable contributions, union dues, medical expenses, moving expenses. Might as well stop pandering to all the special interest groups!!!! Lets send the economy to where the Titanic is!!!!

23. Income From Churches and Non-profits are Only Taxable When they Run a Primarily Business Enterprise

EXAMPLE : Notre Dame and Liberty are religious institutions. When they establish a Football team and obtain millions from TV Contracts, Bowl Revenues and Tournament Fees, sell 500,000 tickets to football games a year, and sell merchandise to the public then that income is and should be taxed. Of course, you could use the examples of the Televangelists selling "end time" merchandise.

31. Well if religion inc was more powerful

Then why is gay marriage legal in the majority of states.

Why did businesses face fines for not wanting to participate in gay weddings

Why do schools across the country now have diversity week

Why trans gender bathrooms

Why are middle school kids being taught diversity and required to learn the new personal pronouns pushed by the LGBT community?

Why don't schools teach homosexual sex is a sin?

Seems to me you do not know what power is.

11. Your headline is not the link's headline. Yours is 100% BS.

The linked article is about religious schools meeting the same kind of accommodation issues they did when interracial marriages were legalized. You've turned it into balderdash about churches losing tax exempt status.

If you keep pulling your hair out like that, it's not going to grow back one day.

17. The NFL finally gave up its shameful tax exempt status and they at least,

represent something real

The Scientology Cult bought up a huge chunk of Clearwater Fl and everyone else has to make up
the taxes they don't pay

It's way past time for the rest of the cults and myth pushers to stop the charade and pay up

These mega-churches make their phony leaders, millionaires. It's vile

These religious thugs, are nothing more than cowards using their 'beliefs' to push their anti-equality bigotry on the rest of society.

They need to be taxed out of existence

39. Nope it's just you.

You are the dark reflection of all you are mocking.

You of all people would benefit from a faith based on love and healing, but choose to believe and worship at the altar of a different higher power, and twist and contort the ideas put before you to control, to hurt and to feel superior. Classic bully, and I am certain it is for the same reasons all bullies do their thing.

We all see what you do, and we all know why..

The best way to deal with people like you is confront them, and let them see how how funny they appear to everyone else.

So continue on, keep proving me right Libby. I like your dance.

18. Yes, but that would only be a short-term fix. The march toward total control

by the few with the rules of law and constitutional order being tossed in the garbage disposal. But there was Anderson Cooper last night in Baltimore saying how wonderful everything is with all the normal proletariats on scene to fight for what is good and right in the city that liberals have run into the ground. It's ovah: Obama's cast was all assembled from the get-go and play went on. When and where will the next eruption occur so NBC news can film the shopping carts full of toilet paper being hauled away?

25. Sorry I was inarticulate (again)

Gay People say they want the right to "Marriage". They already have the same MARRIAGE rights as straight people. Marriage is between a man and a woman.

They want a redefinition of the word Marriage, which is like saying I want the word Vanilla to include the Flavor Chocolate but we're call it Vanilla

Is that better?

when his hunting buddy was one of the parties to Cheney v US District Court for the District of Columbia?
Should Justice Thomas recuse himself from any case dealing with the Affordable Care Act seeing as how his wife makes a lot of money (money which they accidentally forgot to declare on their taxes, but that's another story) from the organization Liberty Central, whose mission statement calls for the complete repeal of the ACA?
