1. I remember watching that.

I remember McDonald's scratch offs that got you a free burger or drink or fries when an American won a medal. (This is before I thought McDonalds was inedible.) Memories...

2. I think the McDonald's giveaway was for the '76 Olympics.

I was a winner several times although I don't recall what menu items they were. I still have occasional night sweats for a Big Mac.

3. That was the first thing I remember about any Olympics

Our family didn't have a TV before that and I had never heard of the Olympics before.

It was an early event in the 1972 Olympics. In both of his 800 meter races Dave Wottle raced the same way. I wondered at the time why he ran so slow and give up so much ground at the begining. In reality, he ran a fast and steady pace. I think all of his 200 meter splits were equal.

5. Dave Wottle Gave a motivational talk at our school

He's a very successful business man now. Interesting guy whom I've always admired and I was able to tell him so in person.

6. I remember that, too.

I was a maniac for running. Ran everywhere any time I could.

1972 was the last time I watched the Olympics. That Gold Medal basketball game put me off the Olympics forever, though by chance I did see the "Miracle on Ice" in 1980.
