Lots of empty seats at the NFL games I've watched today on the last game of the regular season.

Must be due to all the cold weather caused by climate change. For some reason the commentator on the following video feels the lack of fans has something to do with a boycott.

1. It was a meaningless game where our back ups played lol

and it was 12 degrees with wind chills down near zero, they probably didn't come or left early. If that game mattered it would be full up

2. Yep, never been cold like this before during the last game of the football season...

"Must be due to all the cold weather caused by climate change"

...says no one who lives up in the northern part of this country.

4. lol.

Casuals boycotting and commenting on a sport they don’t understand.

Philly sat their starters early. As expected. Meaningless game. Enjoy watching the playoffs Cowboy fans.

5. I spent most of my time watching the Browns play the Steelers in Pittsburgh. ...

The stands were far from full but since the Steelers kept their best players on the sideline it was a fairly meanless game.

The biggest question was if the Browns could finally win a game. They couldn't.

6. Same thing happens every year

When teams are already eliminated from playoff contention or when a final regular season game has no bearing on home field advantage in the playoffs. Luckily for the NFL owners, most teams sell the vast majority of their seats to season ticket holders so the seats have already been paid for whether a fanny is in the seat or not.
I found it interesting to cross-reference 2017 NFL attendence with Trump or Clinton state status:
TOP FIFTEEN NFL TEAMS IN HOME ATTENDANCE
1) Green Bay: 106.8% of capacity*-- Trump state
2) Seattle: 102.9%*-Clinton state
3) San Francisco: 102.4%*-Clinton state
4) Arizona: 101.3%*--Trump state
5) Houston: 101%*-Trump state
6) Indianapolis: 100.7%*-Trump state
7) Denver: 100.4%*-Clinton state
8) New Orleans: 100.2%*-Trump state
9) Philadelphia: 100%-Trump state
10) Miami: 99.8%-Trump state
11) Carolina: 99.8%-Trump state
12) Chicago: 99.4%-Clinton state
13) Baltimore: 99.4%-Clinton state
14) Detroit: 98.7%-Trump state
15) New England: 98.6%-Clinton state
*Over 100% = standing room tickets & Luxury suites/boxes.
--------------------------------------
31) Cincinnati: 81.3%--Lowest attendence in the league.-Trump state

7. Three possible

alternate reasons besides the one that some are hoping for (boycott)

1. Cold as a mofo
2. Lots of teams had no dog in the fight (i.e. no chance of going to the playoffs)
3. New Years Eve

Put all those together and it's no surprise some of the stadiums were not filled to capacity.
