2. Actually, it is because there is no there there. Just a bunch of rocks, and we brought some back.

If we went back, what difference would it make now?

5. I believe that spectroscopic analysis of moonlight had already disproved the "green cheese" theory

There were a number of fanciful theories of what the surface might be like, including deep, loose dust into which the first unmanned lunar lander would sink.

The whole "space race" was simply a "mine is bigger than yours" exercise during the Cold War.

8. Or more immediately, how can we stop them from blowing a wad on a manned Mars mission?

Interstellar travel is only at the extremely preliminary stages, and I don't think it includes any manned vehicles.

6. Ah, but there's billions of megatons of green cheese on the moon

The information was suppressed for fear it would disrupt the global green cheese markets and destabilize France.

10. Helium3

http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Preparing_for_the_Future/Space_for_Earth/Energy/Helium-3_mining_on_the_lunar_surface

The idea of harvesting a clean and efficient form of energy from the Moon has stimulated science fiction and fact in recent decades. Unlike Earth, which is protected by its magnetic field, the Moon has been bombarded with large quantities of Helium-3 by the solar wind. It is thought that this isotope could provide safer nuclear energy in a fusion reactor, since it is not radioactive and would not produce dangerous waste products.

Corporate billionaire that can put a team together to successfully mine asteroids, planets, and their moons for rare minerals in my opinion.

12. And "we" gave away at least one fake "moon rock"

'Moon rock' given to Holland by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin is fake

A moon rock given to the Dutch prime minister by Apollo 11 astronauts in 1969 has turned out to be a fake.

UK Telegraph 29 Aug 2009

Curators at Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum, where the rock has attracted tens of thousands of visitors each year, discovered that the "lunar rock", valued at £308,000, was in fact petrified wood.
Xandra van Gelder, who oversaw the investigation, said the museum would continue to keep the stone as a curiosity.

"It's a good story, with some questions that are still unanswered," she said. "We can laugh about it."
The rock was given to Willem Drees, a former Dutch leader, during a global tour by Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin following their moon mission 50 years ago.

J. William Middendorf, the former American ambassador to the Netherlands, made the presentation to Mr Drees and the rock was then donated to the Rijksmuseum after his death in 1988...snip

Maybe Buzz and his buddies were just having fun

But what could explain the missing moon tapes?

News that these analog data tapes were missing broke on August 5, 2006 when the printed and online versions of The Sydney Morning Herald published a story with the title One giant blunder for mankind: how NASA lost moon pictures. The missing tapes were among over 700 boxes of magnetic data tapes recorded throughout the Apollo program which have not been found...

Fake moon rocks, erased tapes, yet anyone that questions the moon landing is a kooky conspiracy theorist. And that's the way it is circa 2016.

14. I would suspect someone from Holland did a switcheroo

There's a great book about what the REAL reason we went to the moon was called The Casandra Project by Jack McDermitt and Mike Resnick.

TL/DR: Apollo 11 wasn't the first manned mission to the moon, Apollo 8 was. There was something on the far side of the moon. Apollo 8 went to find out what it was. Apollo 9 went to blow it up. Apollo 11 was the cover story. And the real reason Nixon sent folks to break into the Watergate.

Good book.

11. They are not "aliens"

they are "undocumented sentient lifeforms". We need to give them free healthcare, welfare, and a pathway to citizenship.
