1. Sad part is, the ones running around saying there is no climate change

will be like the men on the titanic who pushed the women and children aside to steal a seat on a lifeboat

When it hits, the ones who claim they don't believe, will be the first ones to demand to be saved.

Here in NY area, its going to be in the upper 60s,
and the plants and flowers for the second year are going to break through and start blooming, only to
die and not come back for the entire year again.

to think Trump is going to waste billions on that wall, which some point in the future,
that wall will be like a blocked fireexit in a club that is on fire and no one can get out.

10. Most of the life boats

On the Titanic were not full. Matter of fact they had to talk men into getting into them to prove to the women it was safe. Many women saw the Titanic as the safer bet, being unsinkable and all. Just a little trivia for you.

5. Yes

but climate change makes unusual events and record highs much more likely.

The climate is changing dramatically and faster than at any time in the climate record going back millions of years. Human activity is the cause through excess CO2 and methane in the atmosphere.

27. Doomers post graphs starting in the 1880s because

1) it supports their ideological hatred of capitalism and the industrial age
2) it hides the fact the planet was coming out of the little ice age and temp had been climbing for a hundred years already

Global warming is a Marxist hoax.

50. Science technology advances we can not rely directly on thermometer measurements for that

we have to go to proxy measurements which are somewhat less certain but understood well in modern climatology.

If you want to go back hundreds of years then you encounter the so called and many times verified "hockey stick" graph:

This tells us a few important things that are often misunderstood.

1. There was no Medieval warming period globally.
2. Until the Industrial period CO2 began to dominate the climate the Earth was experiencing a long term cooling trend which would be expected at this stage of the interglacial cycle.

If you want to go even further back then you have to rely on ice core data:

These also tell us some very interesting things about climate.

1. increased CO2 is associated with warm periods.
2. CO2 increase can lead to abrupt climate change.
3. No climate event in the past 400,000 years is as rapid as today's

If you want to go even further back then you have to rely on the geological (rocks) record.

This also tells us several interesting things.

1. Past mass extinction events in which most of the world's species died out have been associated with rapid and dramatic climate change.
2. There have been periods in the past when CO2 was very high and the Earth was extremely warm despite the fact that the sun was then less intense.

We know from the past climate record that the current climate change is caused by excessive CO2 and thus the result of human industrial energy use. We also know see that abrupt climate change is harmful to both land and sea ecologies.

We can go on burying our head in the sand about climate change or we can realize what the science is saying. I for one choose to accept the World Scientific Consensus and base my actions on this important result.

6. Not likely

when the temperature is 100F people certainly do "burn oil"! Its due to the 2nd law of thermodynamics. People use air conditioning at such temperatures. It is much less efficient to cool a building than to heat one. If the energy is electrical, In the United States, it is mostly based on burning of fossil fuels.

22. Not how it works here

It's warmer here than a typical February, but it's also raining a lot (yeah, it's the whole west coast, not just California).

So instead of running my gas furnace, I have to run my electric dehumidifier to keep the fucking black mold from growing. I'd really rather have the "clear and cold" days this time of year to be honest.

As far as Oklahoma goes, it's probably all the extra greenhouse gases they have down there with all the methane that escapes into the air as part of the fracking process. You know, the same thing that's causing all those earthquakes down there in a state where earthquakes used to be practically non-existent.

And of course it will be tornado season down there in a few months.......

Yes, your innuendo is correct. Weather is NOT climate.

However, climate change makes extreme weather events EXTREMELY MORE LIKELY.

The data is clear. The climate is changing at an alarming rate and human CO2 emissions are the cause.

32. Thanks to another poster in the forum, who sent me a message

This person looked up the weather data for Saturday, February 18, 2017 at nearby Altus Municipal Airport. The temperature was nowhere near 100 degrees. The high that day was 70 degrees and the low was 47 degrees. The temperature that day was 58 degrees (70+47=117, divided by 2 = 58) 58 degrees is called the mean temperature at Altus Municipal and is what will go into the weather records as the temperature that day.

Any fool can easily see how inaccurate 58 degrees is because it could have been 47 degrees, then warmed up briefly to 70, then dropped to 47 again that night. But that is how the National Weather Service determines what the temperature of a day is.

Global Warmers cannot advance their agenda without lying. Time after time they have been caught manufacturing fake data and at the very least, distorting the data.

36. If you go to Weatherunderground and search for Magnum weather, Altus Municipal Airport comes up.

Probably because Altus Municipal is the closest reporting station. The high there on Feb 18 was 70 and the low was 47.

If you search Accuweather, they say the high at Magnum was 98, probably reported by some local yokel with a thermometer on his front porch. What did they say the low was on Feb. 18th? It was 47. This means the dew point was very low and that there was a cloudless sky which enabled the dry bulb to rise rapidly. Once the sun went down, the temperature fell rapidly also without clouds.

The high at Magnum, according to Accuweather, on Feb 19th was 64 degrees. The temperature on the 17th was equally low.

Do you care what the temperature highs were the day before and after the 18th? Of course not! All you care about is that some Podunk town with a wannabe meteorologist and his temperature sensor located God knows where recorded a temperature that you think proves global warming exists in Magnum, Oklahoma. Does the 64 degree high the next day prove there is global cooling?

47. My most humble apologies

I was given the wrong day by another poster.

On February 11, Weatherunderground reports the high that day at Mangum was 98. The low was 47. The extremely low dew point of 38 indicates a very dry atmosphere. The warming from 47 to 98 most assuredly took place under cloudless skies and probably returned to 47 if not slightly higher that night. The closest weather reporting station is Altus Municipal Airport. The data at Mangum may be estimated.

The strong, recurrent Pacific jet stream that’s been delivering massive amounts of rain to California has also been pushing mild Pacific air downslope off the Rockies and eastward, keeping the southern two-thirds of the U.S. abnormally warm for early February. In southwest Oklahoma, a warm hi pressure front brought clear skies, dry air, and warm temperatures.

The next day, February 12, the high was 64 and the low was 46. Did Mangum experience global cooling?

39. OMG Rationality strikes again!!!!!

Indeed I found interesting that if you look up the historical rather than the hysterical data you will find out that there were record highs in that region of Oklahoma in the 1990's but then that would support the idea that global warming, as given to us as gospel by the man made global warming crowd, is actually in abeyance.

The bottom line for me is that climate change is real, has driven billions of years of extinction/evolution cycles and take place over too long a period for me as human being with at best a life expectancy of 120 years to make broad based assumptions based on my personal observations of even 20 years of weather cycles. it is bad science and there are many things I will be part of but bad science is not one of them.

Show me a climate model that runs backwards as well as it supposedly run forward and predicts the future then you will have my full undivided attention.
