WBBM Chicago Reporting on Weather Injuries...

-17 there right now, per WBBM.

Heard this in Erie, Pa. on this 13 dollar radio.

There was no static until I moved the phone close to it.

Amazing little radio!

450 miles away.

Tivdio V - 111.

1. Whats your experience with winter sky effecting signal?

I too find it neat to get radio from long distances away.

2. Mid winter and mid summer (solstices)

Are usually best time for hearing far away a.m. radio stations.

My best so far from Erie Pa. was a Florida station.

3. I have an old GM truck that is uncanny at pulling up the far away stations...

Particularly at night.

We don't travel in it anymore, but when we did, it was crazy what we'd pick up.

7. Some folks

Actually use removed old car radios for the distant reception hobby. That is because the car/truck radios were designed to hold up under extreme conditions, and also for picking up distant signals on the road!

10. Kind of OT, but...

With Internet as it is, and mobile electronics as they are, how do you see the future of broadcast radio?

My cynical side remembers the words of 'the last DJ' by petty:

'the boys up stairs want to see, how much you'll pay for what you used to get for free'.

Where do you see things going?

11. Radio will never die

Even if it is kept alive only by us hobbyists and the military.

There ARE things the internet can't do.

8. True

But that is like buying meat in the supermarket, as opposed to hunting.

And, if you are prepper minded, in the event of a disaster (like 911) there will be no wireless service.

9. It gets excellent reviews,

Has a rechargable battery that is the exact same model used in the old Nokia cell phones, and based on some Amazon comments also has Weather Band.

It can be had on Ebay under a different name for $17.
