1. I am almost positive my dad has a unit identical to of looks just like

that Sony unit.
He has all sorts of vintage HAM and shortwave crap from his bobbies in the 70's and 80's.

The signal strength meter and the LED frequency counter are prone to failure. If you are planning to sell, it is worth it to have them repaired for maximum sale value.

5. well that would be years away. dad wouldn't let me out of the house with any of that stuff

right now unless i was going to actually use it.
Im sure he knows what he has.
But im not even sure if its that exact one. I know its the right brand and it looks very much like that .its been several decades since I saw it in person, but I remember the knob and meter layout pretty well
