Panasonic FR-2200 GUTTED

For restoration by a master tech!

"Quick update on the repair of your RF2200.

Yesterday I was able to spend some time and was able or get it fully operational.

There were number of issues. I started by replacing all of the electrolytic capacitors, then cleaning the potentiometers and switches. Some of the caps had already corroded legs, hi. Repaired few traces on the PCB lower end where I also saw signs of corrosion. Unit started working just fine but the SSB was jot working. BFO oscilator was not running.

I ended up taking the BFO coil out as it was open circuit. Guess what: I had to fix the wire inside and re-assemble all back. SSB is now working as well.

Yes, this unit needed attention and you will not recognize it when you get it back. I also cleaned it in and out, washed (literally) all the knobs. This is part of my service as I cannot allow radio to go back in bad shape.

I took apart the rotating antenna, but there is nothing I can do as I found to be a mechanical issue. Plastic is been damaged at the ball bearing place and now antenna moves freely up / down but won't stay up anymore. It was basically stuck this way because of the jammed plastic piece that was broken inside. I lubricated the mechanism on the antenna so turning is smooth. I think it is better this way then being stuck in up position.

Checked and tuned every band especially MW and SW bands. Sensitivity is great and I have not seen any other issues. I was listening to few ham stations on 7MHZ last night. Would like to kept it for few more days on the bench. All in all radio really needed a good service."

Dr. Vlado really knows his shit.

1. God I miss 'Monitoring Times' & their schedule !

Now when I move to House on the Hill, supposed to take possession of an old Quadrophenic Amp. Had 1 before, it became 'Surround Sound'. 4 Speakers & it worked, truly.

Drink the whisker & smoke the smoke ... & You're Orbiting Earth.
Preferably in Low Gravity.

We all have to come down ... someday.
