Marantz Launches Its Best Stereo Receiver For Music Lovers Who Want Entertainment From A Single Box

It’s been barely three months since Marantz announced the Melody X, the latest all-singing and all-dancing mini hi-fi system from one of the world’s best-regarded names in consumer audio. Now the venerable audio brand has announced that it’s launching a new full-width, all-in-one, network receiver that has just about everything on board apart from a pair of speakers.

The Marantz NR1200 has been built from the ground up as a high-performance, two-channel receiver that Marantz hopes will slot in between a soundbar and a full AV receiver with surround sound. The NR1200 has Marantz’s warm sonic signature plus plenty of power, despite its compact chassis.

Marantz engineers developed the NR1200 at the company’s research facilities in Europe and Japan, and the company claims it has used only the finest of electronic components throughout. At the heart of the NR1200 there beats a newly designed, high-current, 75W per channel amplifier into 8Ω, and it’s capable of driving almost any type of loudspeaker. There are two sets of speaker outputs labeled as Zone A and Zone B.

The NR1200 has symmetrical left and right power amplifier circuits that are completely separate but with a shared power supply that has independent windings for each of the unit’s critical functions. This means the power transformer is wired independently from the circuits for the amplifier, preamplifier, wireless module, and front display; this goes a long way to improving channel separation, reducing crosstalk and preserving the stereo soundstage and clarity that audiophiles will expect from this type of device.

1. My first stereo receiver was a humble Marantz 2015. It was wonderful. Great performance...

...for the price. I got it at the Navy Exchange.

I'm glad the company is still producing stuff.

4. The name stands out

remembering stereo store ads in between head shop commercials on free form radio in the early 70's.

2. Considering all it offers, $550 ain't bad.

I have a friend from high school I am still in touch with who inherited the venerable Marantz 10B, with the tuning Oscilloscope! He still has it.
