Anybody using Maverick OS?

I am still on 10.6.8 but just upgraded memory and want to upgrade my OS tomorrow. Has anyone upgraded to the free Maverick and if so, is it something you regretted? Just want to make sure that I'm not making a mistake before I start.

Thanks in advance for any advice, etc.

1. I've been using it for a few months now

On a new Mac Pro (Darth Vader's waste basket). The only problem so far was having to update the drivers and software for my Epson printer.

A word of advice- don't upgrade via software update; instead go the apple support website and download the "combo" upgrade, if available that way. Check your other software (MS office, photoshop, etc.) to make sure you have a version that is compatible with Mavericks.

Good luck!

5. Oh, God, I didn't even think about that.

I've got PS C3, I'll have to check and see if that is compatible. I damned sure can't afford a Photoshop upgrade. I don't even have my disk anymore, and it was secondhand so if I screw that up I'm in bad shape. Thanks!

2. Been using it since it was first released.

No problems. Seems very stable.

3. I have a MBPr 13" running Mavericks

I have had it since the beginning of this year. I have no regrets with it.

But I must admit, I am a MAC noob as this is the first Mac OS box I have ever owned. I have been strictly Windows until my job reqt's made me learn MAC OS.

I am in the middle of taking the MAC OS X 10.9 Support Essentials and Server Essentials courses and am now leaning towards the MAC systems. I like many of the functions that Apple brings to the table.

I did the upgrade from the s/w download area and had no problems with it.

6. Once you go Mac...

I haven't used Windows in literally years, until I spent the summer with a friend who has it. It was damned weird using it again.

The only thing I regret about not having Windows is not being able to use a screenshot video software called "Wink". I loved it and haven't found anything like it for Mac.

10. It could be a possibility...

...but it will take a while. I have way too many items that do Windows but do not do MAC. More likely, I will have both platforms from some time to come and then I'll transition to Parallels and run both from one machine.

I do plan on buying a Mac Pro sometime next year though. Drool.........

4. Installed it a while ago...no problems at all.

The new memory management really kicks ass! Everything overall seems a bit 'snappier'.

It's been rock-solid for me so far.

7. Thanks, good to hear.

I tried downloading it today but it was so slow I cancelled it. I went online and found a few folks complaining about how long it took so decided to wait until I don't need the computer, I'll probably upgrade tomorrow.

9. The only problem I had after installation was that Canon doesn't...

making a Mavericks-compatible driver for my all-in-one printer/scanner/copier.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the machine, other than it's 8 years old and Canon has decided I must buy a new one. I'll never buy anything made by Canon again since they refuse to continue to support their products.

If you're using Time Machine, you could always try the upgrade and if you don't like it, or have problems, you can restore the old OS.
