I am using Windows for the first time in a decade.

My iMac (very old one, 8 years) pooped out on me day before yesterday, and I hooked up the old Mac mini that I had in the closet. It barely ran at all. I told a friend about it when we were setting up a lunch date, and that I could not afford another Mac and was looking at other laptops. He shows up at lunch with a brand new HP notebook! Now THAT is a friend.

Anyway, it's weird using Windows after all these years. I am not sure yet if I love it. I like it and will have to use it for a week or two and get used to it before I compare it to using a Mac.

If I had purchased my own, I was thinking about getting an Android tablet, but after reading a few reviews on the ones I was looking at, I held off on those. Glad I did!

It's also uncomfortable thinking about how freaked out I get when I lose a computer. It's like my arms have been cut off and my stress levels shoot up. My name is Immacolata, and I am an Internet addict...

1. When my previous PC expired I gave DELL a call and had them make me a new one, it would take...

.. a week or so. I'd just do without for that week! Nuh-uh, two days later I hit Walmart with the shakes and other withdrawal symptoms and picked up a laptop to hold me over...

2. I can relate. While my macbook was in for malware removal I was lost. My garage got cleaned though.

6. This is not politics, dear.

Why do you think I'm an Obama supporter? I don't hate him but I don't love him. I damned sure don't send him money.

That said, would you mind having the good manners to take your partisan bullshit out of this thread and back where it belongs?

4. I am so sorry for your loss.

My wife is a Mac Loyalist since her Mac Plus. She has been forced to use a Windows machine at work for the past 3 years, and is finally up to speed there, but comes home to her Mac every afternoon.

Windows really doesn't hate you, it just acts that way.

9. I'll get used to it.

I was having a hard time with the hardware too - the little touch pad that is the mouse on laptops. I don't like it! I'm using a wireless mouse with it. REALLY love this keyboard, such a light touch. I feel like I'm typing a lot faster.

One thing I do miss is Photoshop. I had a copy on my computer from my days working for a design company

14. This is going to sound absurd

But we have 8 active computers in the house including 2 servers. We also have 3 tablets and an Android machine on a stick in both TV's.

15. Nah, that's not weird.

The more the better!

I want a tablet. Maybe I'll get one next. I've seen a few that are very nicely priced.

16. Go for it!

We got just an el cheapo off brand one for the kitchen and put it on this cradle made for our under cabinet lighting system. It's fantastic to look up recipes, run the kitchen timer app, play music while I'm cooking, etc.
