1. Tons of variables

Cold being a major factor, they had to end the test in Detroit early, complete bust when they tried electrics up there one winter.

Turn on the defroster, and their range went to hell.

4. Defroster, lights, windshield wipers, radio...

and any road that isn't Death Valley flat.

Electric cars are a joke.

7. I don't see them catching much of a market in Canada,

or any place that has a similar climate -

Like you said, the heater blower takes a horrendous amount of power on its own, nevermind the amount to use electricity to create the heat which is provided "free" off internal combustion engines.

Let me put it this way - if I started up an electric vehicle, let it "run" while warming up the interior to a comfortable level, defrost the windows - maybe even necessitating melting snow/ice off the windshield, I MIGHT be able to drive it to a charging station and start over . . .

CC

ps: - note for audiophiles - take a pass on those 100+Watt amplified stereo systems

2. The e-car companies need to standardize a trailer with a gas tank and motor/generator.

Which would be easy to attach whenever you want to take a long trip.

6. Until I can be sure it will travel at 10 mph from new Orleans to shreveport

With enough juice left to find a hotel vacancy in a city full of evacuees, I think I'll stick with internal combustion.
