Just finished my taxes. Two days early!

Not sure how much was a slightly higher gross or the new tax policies (any in effect besides lower withholdings? I am self-employed) but it seemed like I was about $200 different than last year - in the IRS favor.

I just use the free TurboTax program through the IRS website, should probably talk to an accountant, but I'm too cheap and lazy.

1. I've always done my own taxes, save one year when I let H&R Block do them, to see if I was missing..

... anything. I wasn't. But I was slow this year, so I filed a form 4868 with a small check, which I expect to get back, as I left some credit in my account from last year...

2. New tax law has no effect on filing for 2017

Which of course is what you were doing

It will affect your quartiles which are due Tues though

However, if you didn't understand that you might want to take advantage of a professional no matter how good you think you are

I owned my own business for 50 years and now manage my own investment portfolio

2 People I've never complained about paying are a sharp attorney and a good CPA
