Anyone else feel like garbage?

Sneezing, coughing, headache, can't talk, sore throat, head feels stuffed with wool. Some kind of creeping crud is going around. My husband has been coughing for 2 solid weeks. The worst of his is over, mine's just stating. If I'm going to catch a horrible cold I always choose Christmas to do so.

I'm drinking water, taking C, Zicam, acetaminophen for fever. Not sure how much Zicam really helps, but it doesn't taste bad and I don't expect it'll hurt.

As least it isn't flu.

1. That sucks...

I feel like crap this morning though. Massive headache that will not go away. I'm sure it's just a tumor or something though.

until today, then 25. Today is the first day I've had to use the heat and woodstove. We've gone from using a/c to heat in a matter of 2 days.

7. We had it last month

The wife, son and I all had it a few weeks apart. My son works in the local school system, so he gets everything going around.

The temperature swings here in Central Texas have been wild. I often have the heat pump in both heat and A/C modes on the same day.

Hope you feel better soon. (My Chinese wife uses honey lemon tea with Jack Daniels as the cure.)

8. me

I've had it for about 2 weeks. Our weather has been wild. Hot then cold and soon will be warm again. I never get sick, but boy did I ever now.....I can't stop this cough and hot tea is not helping.

Hope you feel better soon and have a great Christmas. I'm taking a break from here for awhile. I'm tired of politics.

10. Thanks Boady.

This crud seems to be a long lasting variety. It's lingering for weeks on everyone I know. Reading politics is no cure. I'm going to keep sipping tea and stream some MST3K. Laughing makes me feel better.

22. I have my cure.

Drink a good amount of bourbon, follow with gatorade, motrin, and vitamins. Sleep all night, get up and run a few miles. I always feel better by the afternoon. I rarely drink, but will use it as medicine for colds once a year or so. Works really good for me.

24. Run?

I can barely hoist myself outta bed to get some tea. If I was 40 years younger it might work for me - nah, not even then. The only reason I ever ran was because I had a DS screaming at me to get with the program.

11. I'm kinda feeling that.

My ears have been bothering me and there's a constant but light tickle in my throat. I got my flu shot this year. I normally don't bother because I'm a youngish man (36) and in great health. But I have a baby this year and don't wanna take the risk. I'm hoping its some sorta allergy flare up from the up & down weather we've been having.

Hope ya feel better!

Steam seems to work for me. If you belong to a gym go sit in the steam room until you can't take it anymore. Otherwise try inhaling as much steam as you can and get under the covers and work up a good sweat. I hope you feel better soon.

37. Vomiting is a fairly uncommon symptom with the flu, but maybe this strain is different...

with the symptoms posted above, this very well may have been the flu!
muscle aches, fatigue, coughing, etc..

17. Y'all sadly likely have Whooping cough.

I came down with the same thing about two weeks ago and am still having a bad cough particularly when trying to sleep. My SO came down with it this week.

There is about a one week incubation with symptoms seeming like a mild case of the flu but much worse than the standard cold. The long duration of coughing after the worst of the symptoms start to abate is the sure sign it is whooping cough.

I have chronic health problems so I was in to see my PCP within the first week in case this was heading to pneumonia. He said there has been an outbreak in many states in the last month of whooping cough. It is highly contagious and the symptom matrix fits the disease.

He gave me some anti-cough pearls and said nothing else to do but ride it out. Yes, it does suck. I am worn out from all of the coughing and lack of sleep.

Good luck!

23. I had no idea it was this bad.

http://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Pubs/348-254-PertussisUpdate.pdf

There are dozens of links to outbreaks all over the world. Everything I've read says it just has to run its course. Antibiotics only help you be less contagious. It sounds like ti starts out as a cold then the racking cough sets in.

I hope you're feeling better.

27. Yeah, it has gotten bad.

I had my booster about six years ago, but I obviously needed another one.

My PCP said there was nothing that would resolve it except time, rest, and rebuilding the immune response.

By the time most infections are visible with symptoms, you have already been contagious. I started showing symptoms a week ago Tuesday. I tried to avoid contact with my SO, wear a mask, and slept in a separate room. A week later, this Tuesday, she manifested symptoms.

It is one nasty bug. Thanks.

I've been fighting an off and on sore throat for a couple days. Woke up with it on, plus headache, a little chilled, sneezed a few times. Just generally feel yucky and tired.

Just had some cream of tomato soup. Am going to follow up with chicken noodle soup. And then maybe some tea with honey and lemon..

I just got out of bed after sleeping 16 hours. Normally I can't sleep more than 7. Been under the weather since Tuesday. Cough, pain, sore throat, earache, fever... woke up with my left eye glued shut. I haven't been this sick in years.

33. Yeah, been

feeling like that since third week of October, although I don't feel sick, exactly and I'm not coughing, and no fever.

But sneezing...sore throat...blocked ear...head feels stuffed with wool

plus watery eyes.

I'm guessing that here it's mold allergies since there are plenty of wet moldy leaves lying around and it's been warm.

But whatever, it sucks to be feeling poorly, and especially so close to Christmas when there's usually a ton of things to do. Hope you're feeling better soon.

34. That's a protracted suffering bout and

does sound like allergy. I think I have some sort of allergen in my house. Has nothing to do with this crud I have now, but I clear my throat constantly for periods of several weeks. It seems to be worse when the house isn't in a/c or heat mode and it goes away if I leave home for a day. Hope you enjoy your holidays in spite of it.
