Clean bill of health!

Had my post surgical checkup with the urologist yesterday and the colon surgeon today. All is doing MUCH better than expected. So much so we are talking about reversing this colostomy in 6 months rather than the initial prediction of 1 year.

3. So am I

The sooner I am out of this the better. Having a second a-hole on your abdomen is like having a 3rd eye on your forehead!

4. That is

some outstanding news bro, hope you get it done in six months.

I almost lost one of my employees here to that disease, he had gone septic and by the time he got out of the hospital had lost almost half his body weight....

Seriously glad you are healthy and recovering.

15. My wife almost squeezed the doctor to death

The surgeon is a very slight Korean woman. It would not take much. She does, however, have a personality and presence that can fill a stadium, let alone a room.

It was actually funny. Through both friendships and my outside the office IT consulting, both of which are heavily focused on the local medical community/industry she confided in me I am one of the few patients whom she felt somewhat intimidated by because of the calls she received (totally unsolicited by me) both before my surgery, to urge her to do her best, and afterward, to give their thanks. She also told me she was had several favors called in to delay her scheduled vacation in Europe by a week to do this surgery. I knew I had friends there. I didn't realize how much they'd go to bat for me.

She is widely regarded as one of the best surgeons in the Western PA region. She is booked months in advance. I got in for a consult and under the knife in 3 days.

I owe a lot of people big time.

17. I'd be very curious as to how it went

What put him in that that situation?
How long was he "on the bag"?
How was the recovery?
Has he resumed a "normal" life?

I'm terrified after reversal I am going to be living in Depends, or at least have to re-potty train.

19. He has a whole slew of conditions.

He was doing dialysis every night at home and was in pain. When they drained that fluid, they saw that it was brown. They assumed it was some infection near the port. Turns out, his bowel was leaking. So, they fixed that and I think he was only on the bag for six months?

I know that he had some bleeding after the reversal and was slower to heal, but he also has failing kidneys and is diabetic. I haven't actually discussed in detail the specifics... I guess that is just something you don't share over text. Haha.

I'm gonna guess that if you are ahead of schedule, you will heal from the reversal completely, as long as the rest of your bowel is healthy.

20. So far, so good

I am definitely ahead of schedule. I also am Type1 diabetic, so healing is always a concern. What you describe sounds like Peritoneal Dialysis. I used to work at a clinic so I am familiar.

I am just collecting people's reconnection stories, so I know what to expect.

Trust me, there is nothing about the bowels that is pleasant to discuss.
