A pox on your children!...

Before the chickenpox vaccine was introduced more than 20 years ago, parents regularly exposed their kids to the virus to build an immunity. Today, some parents refuse to vaccinate their children - fearing very rare side effects.

Alternatively, some of those parents are organizing “pox parties” on Facebook. They’re bringing their healthy kids in contact with a child who has chickenpox. Parents in these groups are willing to drive hours and even to different states to put their kids in the same room as an infected person.

Ain't never had it, myself...

1. The correct form of the curse is "A pox on both your houses"

Seriously, I get what you are saying. We see some of unvaccinated more out of laziness than intent. Have a very strong visiting nurse program to help with that.

2. Assholes.

If they object to the vaccines, they'd better hope that exposing their kids to chicken pox doesn't set them up to get shingles later in life. Especially if they teach their kids that vaccines are evil.

I had chicken pox when I was a child. It was nasty.

Shingles is even worse. One of my cousins had them a few years ago. She said it was hell.

8. The ex had chicken pox as an adult.

It was miserable to watch. Both my wife and I have had shingles. It hurt for me. For her, it got onto her face. She nearly went blind.

3. I was miserable when I had Chicken Pox as a kid.

But it's sure better to have gotten it then than later on as an adult.

4. OMG pox parties instead of vaccine? They're nuts.

And that's coming from me and I'm one who refuses to get flu shots.
I had a severe reaction that sent me to ER. It happened again the next year and that was enough for me.
I also had a severe case of influenza some years prior, so hopefully I have some immunity. I'm making the best choice for me. The flu shot is most likely the best choice for others.
I got the second pneumonia shot though with no problem.

6. I've never had a bad reaction to flu shots and I make a point of getting one every year. For the...

... past several years I've been getting the double-dose shot, based on my age. Last year I had a mild case of the flu BEFORE I got a shot, but a month after I was over it I got my shot anyway, as I might have had a different flu virus than I was being inoculated for...

7. We don't do flu vaccine either. It caused my boy's epilepsy..

We have had all the other vaccines though except for me and the hepatitis vaccine. I am allergic to that one for some reason.
