shrekli calls for a lower standard of living to perpetuate prosperity and flourish

my reply in his thread seems very inadequate, so i'd like to quote from the 1944 state if the union.

It is our duty now to begin to lay the plans and determine the strategy for the winning of a lasting peace and the establishment of an American standard of living higher than ever before known. We cannot be content, no matter how high that general standard of living may be, if some fraction of our people—whether it be one-third or one-fifth or one-tenth—is ill-fed, ill-clothed, ill-housed, and insecure.

that greatest generation, as they prepared to take the beaches on normandy and iwo jima, knew what they were fighting for, and it sure was not a lower standard of living. for anyone.

1. Civilizations are built on want and hunger not fat and excess. Nature always reverts to the mean.

Your life is a lie.

2. Your user name is of a person who is a poster child

for living in excess.

4. Yes

One would assume your user name would reflect on what you value. Do you suggest that most people live more lean so that people like Shkreli can live better?

5. Or maybe he sees the excesses all around him and revels in the absurdity of it. He may realize

that artificially saving an individual life with cheap drugs has a profound and negative effect on the species as a whole.

Maybe he is highlighting the absolute hypocrisy and fear driven madness of people trying to promulgate inferior genetic content and adaptability by leveraging a technology that in a just world, would (mercifully for all of us), let the person die without polluting the planet further with broken mitochondria.

But you would have to ask him.

8. "Inferior genetic content"

Is there such a thing? Don't even psychopaths have a use in the world (lots of tech CEO's are psychopaths)? And, is one's ability to get a lot of money indicative of better genetics? If so, then the people who get rich on wall street are just plain better than people like me who make stuff, in my case chips that go into computers.

My opinion is that people who do work to produce something are worth more than those who do work to shuffle money around and skim off the top. This country's priorities favor those who don't produce stuff.

9. You are stuck in a dancing monkey/performance burden mindset. Cast off the ox yoke.

Your job isn't to pay someones bills and then die.

7. Lol. Using r-selected cultures as a baseline is pretty unsurprising for you. Matriarchy's fail.

They NEVER get out of the hut and petty squabbles.

14. What's really sad, and I see this on this board more often than I like

is a total lack of empathy for people, on both the left and right. It's easy to say "let's lower the standard of living," "survival of the fittest," "the weak should die," "we waste resources on people who will never contribute," and so on. I would wager these people that say these types of things have never had a truly hard day in their whole life. They've never wondered where their next meal was coming from or had to gather it from the garbage....or they've never had to stand and look at their child with tubes coming out of him and wondering what kind of life he will have or even if he will live.

I don't pretend to have any of the answers, I just know that when we stop caring for people, we lose. When we think it's ok for people to starve and die so that we are not inconvenienced, we lose. When we think we are better than, we lose. I know that I am not perfect. Far from it, but I am working on myself.

It's just sad what I see on here sometimes. I hope it is exaggerated.

17. Meh...

and that's why the ignore function exists.

I don't waste my time on anyone who baits others with loaded questions, then proceeds to beat on anyone innocent (or brave) enough to reply to them with a different opinion.

A nasty little game played by someone who runs around talking all the time about "normal people". Obsessed with "normal people". And, of course, applying a very subjective standard of "normality" to others...i.e. "If they're like me, they must be "normal".
