I met my puppy yesterday...

I'm just not sure which one she is! Their personalities are totally different. Also, the pic I posted earlier isn't her mother and father, it's her mother (black) and grandmother (cream). The father is also cream and heavy boned, but leggier than granny. I love the granny!

Puppy 1 is very light yellow and weighs 6 pounds. She is timid, was trembling for about 10 minutes when first taken out of the puppy quarters, but didn't try to hide or go back. She relaxed after a bit, and stayed relaxed. Held in my arms on her back, she relaxed into a puddle. Was content to lie in my arms, stuffed her nose in my hand and licked just like Jakey did when I met him. When I set her down to pick up puppy 2, she was content to lie at my feet against my legs. She followed me when I walked away and came to me when I called to her from a few feet away. She may be a little slower in developing than puppy 2, but I won't know till I come back to pick them up. She calls to my inner couch potato.

Puppy 2 is cream and weighs 6 pounds, 3-4 ounces. The base of her tail is thicker than puppy 1, and her head looks a little bigger, so I think she'll take after her grandmother at least in looks. She is very confident and happy to go exploring, but returned. She found and retrieved a flip flop to chew. Held in my arms on her back, she made no attempt to wriggle away, but was a touch tenser, say spaghetti "al dente," than puppy 1, who was overcooked spaghetti. She also followed me and came when called to. She got whiny and yappy, then the breeder realized she needed to go potty, so quickly put her into the shavings room of their living quarters. She squatted next to a poop and took a big dump. Breeder brought her back out and for a while she was quiet, then got whiny and yappy. Then she turned all cat: wanted to go back with the other puppies, quieted for a minute, then wanted to come back out. In and out over and over. Then the breeder said she thought she might want to eat since the whining started when she got out an empty puppy food bag to show me what she's feeding them. Very demanding.

She quieted when carried her to the door when I was leaving. Then she fixed her eye on me as I was walking away and started "talking." If I hadn't seen a lab in front of me, I would have thought she was a husky. Her "talking" even included a tiny bit of a howl! The breeder was a surprised as I was at her behavior.

So 1 is a couch potato who needs support coming out of her shell.
2 is an adventuress who needs reining in.

Decisions, decisions...

I'm a sucker for sweet too, but picked the active genius and regretted it after a decent night's sleep. I'm going to sit on it a while longer. We don't pick up until the end of the month and I have 1st pick, so I may have a week or so to change my mind. I just don't want to do it too soon and then regret that too.

5. the timid snuggler was calling to the couch potato lovebug in me

but I foolishly went for the active genius. By the middle of last night when I couldn't sleep, I regretted it.

Since there are 2 yellow females, I have first pick, and they won't be ready to go for another 2 weeks, I suppose it's not too late to change my mind, but I can only change it once.

The active talker also may be food motivated, so possibly easier to train. But maybe not, since she's a genius. Having slept on it, I think she had already figured out how to manipulate her human into taking orders.

But when she fixed her eye on me and started "talking," I couldn't help but laugh. Just like Jake in mid-winter when he was bored.

7. That's the one I would have picked. Didn't want to influence your choice.

You'll be very happy with her.

8. thank you. hmmmm....with time, I've become happier with the cream

she wasn't overactive, just inquisitive and self-confident.

My gut response to the light yellow was something wasn't right with her. I very nearly said something to the breeder, but decided sometimes it's best to keep mouth shut.

My gut response to the cream was she was trying to please me, and then trying to tell me something.

Bu tI guess I'll find out on Wednesday, when I go to pick her up!
