The DEA should not be making medical decisions

it's stupid and cruel.

My wife broke her hip on the 18th (slipped on the stairs). Got into see her doctor on the 19th no meds hot and cold compresses no relief. Back to the doctor try ibuprofen little relief,

Doc on vacation now, over to urgent care, use a lidocaine patch no help. The wife is miserable can't sleep, can't put any weight on it.

Back to urgent care on the 24th, I guess she suffered enough she got a scrip for 10 pills a narcotic. 3 day supply.

Calls her doctor on the 26th, sorry no controlled substances without an exam.

Back to the doctor on the 27th she got a10 day supply the most you can get,

So I guess we will have to be going back to the doctor every 10 days or so till she heals.

The country has lost it's mind over the opioid crisis. They had some idiotic town hall on a couple of days ago and one of the ass hole panelists said the drug companies put special addicting chemicals in the narcotic pain relievers and "I guarantee you after 5 days you will be addicted".

1. I was warning about this a long time ago. "Opioid Crysis" is the new gun control.

Misuse of opioids is being combated like gun control. They are targeting the people that follow the law, and they are/will suffer for it. I see a lot of backyard poppy gardens the the near future.

3. The VA

is pulling vets off the pain meds, cold turkey, they've been prescribed for decades. There have been some failed and successful suicides due to it. Those pulled from the meds are told to take aspirin or Tylenol.

4. You can still get em

But you have to go through the BS protocol first.

Took my wife a week before she got any relief.

What's really sad, is we had made a lot of progress in pain management in the last couple of decades.

A buddy of mine about ten years ago broke his ribs and punctured his lung, while in the hospital he had his own little plunger he could use to administer pain meds whenever he started to hurt.

No more waiting till it's time for your pain pill.

8. I'm glad she's getting some relief.

Pain can absolutely color your world to the point of suicide. It's criminal that physicians are being controlled not only by the DEA, but by the criminals themselves and those who are so weak of character that they must be high constantly.

6. I read an alarmingly article

In regards to an increase in suicides because of the opioid situation. People who are not drug addicts, but need the rx for a semblance of life, being taken off them after years of managed treatment. It’s truly sad and truly wrong what is happening to pts.

7. Yes, and after

20+ years of opioid pain relief the VA cut me from 8 tablets a day to 3. I feel lucky I get even that much because a lot of other vets aren't.

I have to take a urine drug screen when they call; they check for other drugs besides the opioid including marijuana which I feel is an invasion of privacy. I'm asked questions like, 'How does this medication help you", even though every time they ask I tell them it allows me some ability to live a normal life and it still isn't enough. I have to sign a 5 page narcotics agreement so I must notify the VA if I receive any controlled medication from a private physician for any reason or risk the VA cutting me off. Pharmacies in my state report all controlled rx to the VA. I'm supposed to install a locking mail box.

Ironically, I could go out on the street and buy all the opioids I'd ever need if I felt like wasting money on almost useless hydrocodone.

9. Im sorry you have to go through that

It’s ridiculous. My sister is drug tested as well.

My BIL, a police officer, says that they are seeing a rise in heroin use due to this and the crackdown on meth ingredients.

5. Im sorry your wife is going through this

It’s ridiculous that people who need pain management cannot get what they need.

My docs won’t prescribe pain meds either though. The few drug seekers ruined it for the whole practice after a few letters from the insurance companies regarding patient compliance.

I hope she gets relief and heals quickly.
