The day in history January 14

On January 14, 1993 Iraqi president Saddam Hussein declared an Islamic holy war against the United States and its allies. In a speech, Hussein ordered Iraqi ground air defenses to fire on any allied aircraft that flew over Iraq.

During the speech, Hussein promised Iraqi people a victory in "the mother of all battles." He held a press conference just hours after a U.S. airstrike and tied the conflict with the west to a fight against enemies of Allah, saying the United States and its allies were "criminals...…...carrying their hatred and their evil with them...…..to impose their will of colonialism." (The History Channel)

Tisk, tisk…...all he had to do was allow UN inspectors in to verify he had no chemical weapons. His stubbornness and foolish pride cost him and others their lives.
