This day in history January 23

On January 23, 1941, Charles A. Lindberg suggested that Congress negotiate with Hitler. National hero Charles Lindberg, who flew to fame when he made his solo flight across the Atlantic to France, suggested to Congress that they negotiate a neutrality pact with Hitler. Lindberg was an early admirer of German national "revitalization." He was heavily criticized at home for vehemently opposing U.S. intervention. Later, Lindberg flew fifty U.S. combat missions over the Pacific. He helped teach U.S. pilots how to get the most range out of their fuel through leaning techniques. (The History Channel)
