Hints on how to start a go fund me?

Some may remember pics of the place I posted here b4 -

Well - Jan 25th I barely escaped - running from one end of the house grabbing first my coveralls and coat hanging by the door to the back porch where I discovered a fire roaring outside in the enclosed porch around 6am (I had been sitting on the couch at the other end of the house where the woodstove is watching Netflix when my download monitor indicated I was offline - instinctively looked towards the other end of the house towards where the satellite dish is and saw a strange glow from the window

Not realizing the futility of it - I grabbed the 2-1/2# fire extiguisher located by the door, and cracking the window open just enuf to get the nozzzle through - emptied it in about 30 seconds . . . .

Backdraft? - yeah - all of a sudden I hear a whump whump whump and knew I hadda get my ass out of there. No time to stop and get boots, heard a whoosh behind me and started to gag running into my bedroom towards the front porch door - spotted my cell phone laying on the bed and jumped off the porch (nekked) into snow and ice layered mix to above my knees and didn't stop running until I had gone around the front - up to the garage where my plow truck was parked - drove down to the end of the driveway, backing partially into the field - THEN I dressed.

The heater had not been working for over 3 years and I had some extra $$ so fixed it about 2 months previous.

Some may recall I'm snowed on for the winters, and Emergency responders were hours getting me out - 1st having to return to get a special ATV with trax from another fire department - THEN when he saw how I was dressed called in for clothing to to survive with getting severe frostbite ( sumwhere round -20C ) - drove out and back in - - -

It was over two hours I sat - watching it burn to the ground

I took this pic after they got me out.

THANKS GUYS!

And this idiot known as CC here had no insurance.

(paid cash from inheritance 6 years ago ALMOST TO THE DAY! )

I'm sure now you understand my query

I have no idea on the GMF.

Ugh, especially in the winter...did the snow at least help to save a building or two?

25. Read my response to others

If I'm still above ground

I plan to be there as soon as the road is passable

Me not welcome in USA no more - old DUI

I loved my 14 months ( yeah an illegal) all of 79 and part of 80 - g/f at the time drove her ( well mine - a gift) totallly restored 49 Plymouth businessman's coupe, and left it here in Canada for me claiming mechanical problems and urgent need to return to USA - I ended up legally registering it in Canada

-yeah just about like that - engine and tranny rebuilt too

OH - I don't think I deprived anyone of a livelihood - I ran my own mobile business fixing people's cars/trucks at home or at their work - I had a few of a pretty unique business cards (yep, gone in the fire) designed by one of my g/f down there who started out as a customer ( I LOVED the San Diego, Bonita, Chula Vista, National City areas - lived in all of them ) - came home broke, having spent it all in CA, but the g/f left me a few hundred CAD cash at me saying I got no use for this "funny money" down there and flew away . . . .

I suspect I wouldn't like it much now, nor would the CA girls be so hot after this weird sounding (but apparently Hot Canuck ) - one girl suggested tighter pants and lose the underwear to show off my ass which I did so for decades but at 68 having lost the ass and 6-pack turned into a 24 - nawwww

I'll be providing y'all with updates ( gotta get an OLD computer - this new one sucks . . . )

4. Damn.

I'm sorry I don't know anything about the logistics of setting up a GoFundMe page, but if I were you, I'd use the second, third, and fourth photographs in the appeal, and describe the events and your situation just as you did here.

Good luck.

And I wonder if a letter to Bernie Sanders asking for a donation might help.

11. Guy is basically given a house. Given.

Doesn't bother to get insurance,
Then it burns to the ground right under his nose.

Now this person is asking for other people to pay for another house.

IMO, he has displayed a negligent and carefree attitude with a gift that MANY other people would have cherished, that would change a lot of peoples lives for the better.

And now he wants other people to buy him another house.

I am sorry about the fire, that must have been devastating,
But realistically, It's time to start looking into a mortgage.

27. Ah my friend, but I spent most of my inheritance wisely, securing my home forever.

I still have 3k in checking, and 4k of the original inheritance left, put there to smooth out until my OAS kicked in in 2016.

That 7k would be almost gone now if I hadn't kept my normal spending within a budget. I have one very special friend who heard about it from one of the rescuers, and how long it would take to get me out - and by the time I got out, she had an $80/night room and $75 $ food one time benefit and $250 clothing one time benefit with the Canadian Salvation Army . Also she had got the nuns to open up the used clothing store right off the bat to get me at least some warm clothing.

IT IS NOT ALL ABOUT MONEY! It is to immediately take care of basic needs - roof over your head, clothing and food. You have NO idea how much stress that takes off of you instantly, albeit you still mourn the loss of your contents, especially someone like me that takes thousands and thousands of pictures each year, posting what gives me a thrill so much - the wild life, the QUIET! - hell sometimes I can even hear the snowfall!

That is why people are insured for 2400$/mo for rent until the house is rebuilt/replaced.

And the reason a 200,000 house loss is given 500k or more is CONTENTS,and in my case - my belonging were mostly crap - but my pictures/videos of momma nature a NO amount of money can replace the 10's of thousand of photos - among the loss of over 10k of DVD's I lost - pictures of old g/f's - pix of what I'c call -"mild porn" no bestialy/kids - just purty girls nekked

Anyhoo - busy busy busy - went to emerge 1 am yesterday Feb 13th - got home 11:30 am - time for this old fart to hit the ole hmm -- THE FART SACK

13. ".....I would hate to be you....."

Oh now, I've known Mr. Mannn for years and years, and he's one of the most caring people I've ever met. Just don't expect his sympathy when something's your own fault. If it's not your fault, his generosity is bottomless.

Myself, I expect to make a donation when a GoFundMe page is set up because I want to try an experiment.

I've never in my life made any allegations about being giving and caring and compassionate and sharing, unlike Demos and primitives, who constantly virtue-signal the rest of us about what wonderful people they are.

And hence this experiment, where I, a boorish selfish uncaring redneck make a modest donation, to see how many from the virtuous side of the aisle pitch in too.

I suspect it's going to show that the Demos and primitives are liars and phoneys about their compassion, that they expect "other people" to help our colleague while they selfishly cling to their own money.

So I hope he hurries up--he's got nothing to lose--and sets up a page, posting it over on Skins's island and among the jackpiners too, to see how this goes; to see if the Demos and primitives are as virtuous as they insist they are.

9. ".....Thats YOUR fault....."

Well, yes, but at the same time which of us has not been ruinously negligent in some responsibility, and had to pay greatly for it?

So.....he screwed up, but we all screw up once in a while.

I think the story, the way he wrote it, makes it eminently credible, especially when compared with what some primitives do up.

So I wish him well; I hope he raises enough to make himself whole again, and I think he could do that by thinking of all the Demos and primitives who are always telling us how caring, how generous, how giving, they are, and directing an appeal to them, giving them the opportunity to prove it.

Bernie Sanders thinks people should share their wealth; surely he's got enough to share a couple hundred with our colleague here, and there's Dustin Trudeau, his prime minister and one of the wealthiest individuals in Canada, who if he were honest about his thinking himself a nice guy, a generous guy, would send along at least five hundred.

I dunno what appeals on Skins's island and the jackpinery would bring, but given how the primitives boast and brag about how good they are, appeals to them might bring in enough to make him whole again, and more.

Omaha Steve's also easy.

Isn't there some kind of program in Canada for free housing until he gets his place rebuilt?

And I agree, there are thousands of members at DU, many always bragging about how rich they are...He should ask for the funds to rebuild his home from his friends there.

I know it's a bad time to kick someone when they are down, but.. damn.. no insurance?

anyway, I'm pretty sure you've already beat the shit out of yourself so...

If you get it started, some of us will pitch in to get you some clothing and food to help you get by, but don't go hoping gofund is going to come close to getting you a replacement place to live, or even any substantial amount, you need to start working on a realistic plan asap. You've got a long row to hoe. This is where then men are separated from the boys, so don't lay down.
Make sure to post the link here on DI and we'll help out for some clothing and whatnot.

good luck bud, I'll be rootin for you

21. Thanks much - I'm not overly upset about it really . . .

mighta saved my life.

I'm in the hospital now, not because of the fire. I had become increasingly feeble/winded at any exertion despite cutting my smoking down to 8-9 a day from 22-25 a day.

I've been smoke free since the 22nd of January - and absolutely NO urge to have a smoke - -

Despite over a dozen ex-rays and one sonogram - noone has related my weakness to smoking - lungs be fine but "congested" - airways smaller (but no deposits)

Thanks much!

17. Looks like you could get something pretty

livable built fairly quickly and pretty cheaply. You already have two buildings you could remodel as a living area. You also have something that looks like a storage container that can be remodeled and used for housing. You can use your land as equity for the building money.

Not all is lost. You still have a lot to work with, spring is right around the corner. You could be sitting in a warm cozy place again by fall.

18. ".....Not all is lost....."

Yes, especially given that the guy's shown some initiative in the past, regarding alteration and upkeep of his place on his own. If he has the resources, the material, the equipment, yes, he could probably deal with it most of it himself.

But he should hurry up and get going on setting up a GoFundMe page--something he could do inside while the weather outside's intolerable--as the sooner he accumulates some cash, the sooner he can do things about his living quarters.

I'd really like myself to donate as soon as possible, giving me more time to sit back and watch, to see how much help his self-proclaimed magnanimous primitive and jackpine brethren extend as compared with what redneck reich-wing fundy people might do.

They'll of course be generous with pictures of their hands, healing white light, and good vibes.....

22. Oh - I intend to rebuild - but much smaller

there's a 8' x 16' foot "ice shack" on 8x8 "skis" - fully insulated, paneled with bunk beds and a woodstove that'll cook you outta there at -20C

Skis are just to get around by-laws - hell you'd haft hire a bulldozer to drag it out that non-maintained road. That Bunkhouse was not built to go anywhere -

I'm good to go as soon as the road clears enuf to get in. With any luck the food in the two freezers in the garage behind the house will hold out if I get there b4 it warms up too much - I got bread, hamburg frozen dinners 5 rib-eys etc in one , and 18kg of cheese 3 family packs of cereal 8 pkg of chocolate chip cookies etc etc in the side by side.

MORE info in my responses to others participating in this thread

Having not come to town since Nov 2016, I haven't filed taxes for 3 years - I figure I got between 7 - 10k coming.

Whatever - I ain't gonna let no bank hold a toenail's worth of my property.

I'll get her done, and dare not put it up on MY facebook, cuz just one curious visitor finding the place "abandoned" ant the end of a dead end road with closest place over a mile away - - - -

small town - every one knows everything.

I'll figure out what it costs to build a proper, but modest 2 bedroom almost in the same place, clean up the debris etc to set my goal for a gofundme - not too big, cuz I'm a packrat, and I'll just fill it up with junk - again

AND

It will be insured . . . . . .

CC

ps: thanks for your input

pps: slow response time is my BRAND NEW computer keeps freezing up - not booting . . . . . AND I hate WIN10 - gonna buy used, (like my dells only the New one crashed completely in less than 2 years - Im going used an Win 7 and/or XP

26. Let me offer our sympathies. We have been where you are.

It has been 6 years now, but back in January of 2013, our home burned. Not as badly as that, we still had 4 walls, and about 1/3 of a roof, but it still necessitated a complete gut down to the studs including the floor, the demolition of our "great room" and bathroom portions of the house, both of our fireplaces, and the loss of all of our furniture and brand new appliances. The only things of value we managed to salvage before the fire department arrived were our dog and parrot, our business server with all of our ongoing work on it, and two bottles of Scotch, one of which we drank as we sat as watched the fire department fight a losing battle. Thank god our cats somehow managed to find shelter and live. I have no idea how they managed that when I think back at how engulfed the structure was.

Unlike your situation we actually were insured, though we almost weren't. December and January are very slow business months for us, and we were really short on cash. I was holding off on the homeowners bill. In fact the day of the fire was our last day before cutoff. I had planned on paying later that day, and to hell with the gas and electric until next month, since they can't cut you off in the winter.

So there I was standing in front of my burning home calling the insurance to make a payment. Once that went through I asked about making a claim.

Here's the basics of how the conversation went:

Me: "I need to make a claim"
Ins: "I can help you with that, what sort of event has happened?"
Me: "I need to make a fire claim"
Ins: "On what date did the loss occur?"
Me: "Now"
Ins: "I understand that you home currently has fire damage, but when did the fire occur?"
Me: "No, you don't understand. My house is burning down right now. I'm standing right in front of it watching it go up"
Ins: "Do you mean to tell me you are making a fire claim as your home is burning down"
Me: "Yes. There is no time like the present, and I suspect I'll either be a mental wreck or very drunk within an hour or so"

Between structure and contents claims it took a little over 9 months and close to $500,000 to get us back in.

We ended up living in a hotel for a month and then a home insurance rented for us. I had Comcast out to my mom's basement within 24 hours and had the server and email back up. The phone numbers were ported to our cell phones the same day. The fire happened on a Friday and we were back at work from the hotel Monday morning with the help of the staff who lent us an extra folding table and chair for us to work on.

If you need to ask anything whatsoever, feel free here, or via PM. I'll even send you my contact info if you want if you feel the need to reach out for any reason. I know about everything from getting through this, to the actual construction process.

My wife and I did much of the work ourselves, and what we did not, I signed on to the contractor's crew as a laborer's apprentice to both save some money and learn as much as I could. By the time we finished there was virtually nothing left of the original structure.

28. thanks it guy . . .

Some do not realize the loss is MUCH more than the roof over one's head - it's the belongings, memories etc that hit hard - all the thousands of photos never viewed or share - just a select few I have shared via FB , this site etc . . .

I do not let attitudes like Da Mann's discourage me - I'll admit, dropping the insurance a few years back was not a wise move, but on a limited income, choices have to be made - yup - I made the wrong/stupid one - ( leave it alone already - - - - - !!!!! )

As soon as the weather clears in the Spring - I'll be back in there, cleaning up and starting a small cabin for this year - hopefully build next year

gonna build to the right of the building shown in the centre of the pic (now burnt to the ground)

In the pic below, everything to the left of the white line is mine - bordered on 2 sides by crown/federal land

Oh hell yeah - - - - -
