Happy Valentines Day, Nicole

Young woman from one of the local meetings.

26, tiny, pretty as a china doll.

Two young children.

Just got out of jail after two years, trying to put her life back together.

Got badly beaten up once since then by friends of the dealer she helped get locked up after she was arrested.

Got into a rehab romance with one of the people I drive to the meetings.

They were fighting and broke up a week ago.

Got word this morning she died from an o.d..

Hell of a Valentines day shock.

Went to the meeting tonight, somber with lots of tears.

Then on the ride home, got to hear this 29 year old fuckwad talking about how badly her death makes him want to use again.

Makes me wonder what God is thinking sometimes.

Happy Valentines day, Nicole.

I hope you're in a better place.

1. Had a relationship

with an alcoholic in AA some years ago who said that when he was actively drinking, something as minor as a broken shoelace would make him want to pick up the bottle. Same thing even after getting into AA.

Addiction is sneaky and deadly, unfortunately.

RIP, Nicole. So very very sad. Like you, I hope she's in a better place now. At least the pain is gone.

2. Im sorry for your loss

There are no words of comfort that can help with the sadness. Drugs are a pox on our society and she was so young. Please take care of yourself.

4. Thank you

When it was my turn to speak, I was silent for a few moments and passed.

Somehow I couldn't bring myself to form any sentence containing the words "I" or "me" in those circumstances.

Thank you.

6. You're a rare and good

person to care so much to get folks to those meetings. So much loss will get you down and I'm sorry for what you're going through. I hope those kids have someone they can count on.

7. Thank you very much

America's children are dying from this at a rate worse than the Vietnam war.

I believe the number was close to 70,000 overdose deaths in 2017.

I never touched heroin because as a kid in the late 60's and early 70's, I saw what it did first hand in my integrated neighborhood.

Thanks for the nice comments.

I do what little I can.
