flood waters receding

The river reached up to within several yards of the house yesterday, and then stopped. I dunno, maybe forty or fifty feet, but then it spilled into a minor subsidiary steam near the house, and ran off on that.

Since then, because of the high winds, the water's gone down further. I'm not sure, but I suspect wind helps, at least in some slight way, water to evaporate.

However, all around me, in an area of about 30,000 square miles of Nebraska, much damage and desolation, whole towns emptied, entire roads washed away. But with the loss of only one life--unlike the primitives during hurricanes, we didn't sit around waiting for Donald Trump to fly in Air Force One and carry us away; those who had to get away got away by their own selves. (I didn't have to leave myself, but I was all ready to go if told to.)

1. Seems like the more rural

one lives the more prepared and/or self reliant one is.
