2003: President George W. Bush issued an ultimatum to Saddam Hussein

In a televised address on March 17, President George W. Bush issued an ultimatum to Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, saying, "All the decades of deceit and cruelty have now reached an end. Saddam Hussein and his sons must leave Iraq within forty-eight hours. Their refusal to do so will result in military conflict commenced at a time of our choosing." Hussein refused. On March 20, U.S. forces attacked, dropping precision-guided bombs on a complex believed to hold senior officials. (THE HISTORY CHANNEL)
