Got a 22 pointer on the last day.

Not the fucking brute I wanted.
Stuck it in him and he took off the way he came. Waited 10 minutes to go look and he was about 100 yards away. Dead.
Skinned and hanging for the last 2 days.
mmmm
Gonna be good!

5. I don't hunt but this is why I oppose archery

I think it causes unnecessary suffering. A proper, clean shot drops them instantly.

7. Primitive means with primitive results

An animal's death in nature is always painful. Animals there do not get put down, or simply die in their sleep. An arrow is arguably better than a puma or equivalent.

Bow hunting also requires a higher level of skill. I could drop a moose at 600 yards, though it would be an ethically questionable shot. An arrow requires up close and personal. I respect the skill of those who do it.

8. IMHO

Truly primitive means hunting dangerous game, such as boar, that can kill you if you fuck up.

Also, primitive means at least a recurve bow as opposed to a compound, a traditional crossbow, or -

Now THAT is a badass!

14. Nice! I used a recurve for this moose as well.

Wanted to do it the hard way.
I was nervous as fuck when he came out looking for me, nothing but a stump and 1 shot for protection.
He turned to the side and I fired.

17. I remember some dude killing a bear by throwing a spear at it.

People gave him a lot of shit for it but it was pretty cool.

18. IIRC

They gave him shit because he was in a tree stand using a bait pot, as opposed to on the ground where the bear would have a fighting chance.

At least you were on the ground.

20. I checked it out. He was on the ground, but using bait to get him in a good position.

Kind of cheating, but baiting bears was figured out long ago.

12. He dropped pretty fast for a large moose.

He only.made it 100 yards in a sprint.
Got him in the lungs.

I shot a moose in the head twice with a 30-06 and it still wasn't dead and trying to get up. The other one I shot in the lungs because I had the shot and it made it quite a ways farther than this one before it dropped as well.

19. I'm a hunter both firearm and archery.

I shoot a compound bow and don't shoot shoulder cannon rifles. The last 10 years I've managed to put a broad-head completely through the deer I have harvested. None of them went more than 60 yards.

I've hunted most of the big game animals on this continent with my bows, rifles, muzzle loaders, and handguns.

I do hunt deer from tree stands but no bait is allowed here. The bear I've taken with archery tackle were all from the ground and at less than 30 yards.

Black bears are pretty chicken and not usually a danger but when you step up to the big browns you are both the hunter and the hunted at the same time. I would say that is equality.

Added fact, I only did that one time and that turned into a roll of the dice. Once was enough.

6. Indeed

I have never had the opportunity to do much hunting. Dad did some and hubby is a fanatic about it. There is something primal about consuming what you hunted. We were given some wild boar meat from Texas recently. It was excellent. Not that much hunting in the immediate area here, so I expect to see the menfolk make pilgrimages to Utah, Idaho, and Texas. I might go with them a time or two, but it is pretty clear it is kind of men's' retreat.

My brothers both hunted boar with recurve bows.

No thanks.

13. I like it. I don't do it much in the States.

Moose are huge and the meat is so damn good. So I try to go every couple of years.

Gave the skin and antlers to her step-fathers brother to make native drums and knife handles.
Nothing wasted except the skeleton, but that's in the meat, so the dogs will get those soup bones and meat bones.
