Ireland to hold referendum on blasphemy law

The Republic of Ireland will hold a referendum on whether to change its laws against blasphemy.

It is expected that the vote will be held on the same day as the Presidential election, which is likely to take place in October.

The move is part of a commitment made in the programme for government.

The previous Fine Gael-Labour coalition, which governed from 2011 to 2016, had promised a vote on the law.

1. Rather much ado about nothing.

Common law blasphemy offenses have not been prosecuted since the mid 1800's. They only applied to Christianity. And the Defamation Act of 2009 covers all religions, protects art, literature, etc., and has never been used to prosecute a case either.

This will, of course, pass but then Ireland will embrace anti-hate speech laws like the rest of the UK. And the protected religion will naturally be Islam as it has become today.

4. Sorry, I was momentarily surprised that an international traveller of your standing

would think that the Republic of Ireland was part of the U.K. I mean, I’m sure you’ve been all around Ireland expanding your already impressive expertise of Irish literature, particularly of Yeats and Joyce.

5. Now, now - don't get nasty ,. . . . .

After all, they only left the UK in 1922 . . .

7. Sigh.

I put very few on ignore but it is time for you to go there.

You offer nothing of value to discussions here. You are an insulting twerp, an anti-theist bigot, an arrogant know-nothing, and not worth wasting any more energy or time on.

Bye bye Mr. Nobody!

8. Oh NOOOOOS!!!! I was so looking forward to discussing how

you learned Latin, Greek, Hebrew, and Arabic as a wee lad at the knees of your polyglot father.

You know, with four (at last count) university degrees and a certification in sexology, possessing such amazing language skills, spending years practicing as a clinical psychiatrist, performing all those good works for other's well being, having written what must be mounds of publications in peer reviewed journals, being an international traveller of some repute, completing a distinguished military career that spanned the "Bush wars," performing your work in steadfastly defending the Catholic Church, possessing an eclectic range of political views that encompasses both Bernie and Trump, I am amazed you don't have your own Nobel by now. Or are you just holding out on us, you sneaky dog, you?

Well, since you won't be able to view my responses, I will nevertheless persevere in exposing your errors, pomposity, insults and arrogance to our interested colleagues. That will be some solace in my drab and empty life without you. Thanks for the memories.
